recommengation. Councillor
Elsa Haydon did not vote. She
was absent due to illness.
Gower said other sub-
division projects had been
deferred in Goderich because
of concern for over -loading
the town's sewage treatment
plant.
"And here we are ap-
proving a project that hasn't
even had the engineer's
approval," said Gower. He
said he had spoken to Burns
Ross about the matter and
Ross had assured Gower he
had never been asked for his
opinion regarding the semi-
detached homes proposed by
Ducharme.
Four more lots owned by
Ray Young were also given
planning board approval for a

The businessmen in the
Business Improvement Area
Association have been
requested to indicate to what
extent they would be willing
to participate in the first
phase of a proposed
beautification and im-
provement recently proposed
for the core area.
Councillor Dave Gower
suggested that before council
could vote on co-operation
with the businessmen in the
venture, it would be best to
know just what the
businessmen had in mind as
council's portion of the
project. Council agreed. -.

Council voted unanimously
to concur with a resolution
from the Township of
Charlottenburgh 'that the
issue of capital punisbment
be placed on the next ballot as
a national referendum to
allow the people of Canada to
decide the issue according to
their own collective con-
science and thereby relieve
the elected people from the
responsibility of interpreting
the wishes of their con-
stituents".

Bylaw, officer Dick Eisler is trying to find a home for this little fellow and hree of his
friends about the same age. Eisler found the little dog on Salt Mine Road where he had
obviously been abandoned by his owners. He said he has found four pups about the same
age in the past three weeks and has tried his best to find homes for them rather than see
them put to sleep. Anyone interested in a pet should get in touch with Eisler through the
town hall. (staff -photo)

A traffic committee report
indicates that parents in the
south end of the municipality
are concerned about the
speed of cars travelling along
the newly paved Suncoast
Drive. Parents are afraid for
the safety of their children
who are riding bicycles onto
Suncoast Drive from side
streets.
Chief King has promised
radar checks in the area, but
has also reminded parents
that traffic on Suncoast Drive
does have the right of way.
"And if the truth is known,"
the report stated, "the
cyclists may be causing their
own problem by not stopping
before going onto Suncoast."

The Parks- Committee is
investigating the possibility
of using Fanshawe College's
School of Landscape Design
services to prepare site plans
for several parks which are
proposed for development in
the municipality over the
next few years.
Those parks suggested for
development are Dawnros.e
Park, Cambridge Park, the
fenced park area On the bank
beside the sewage treatment
plant: the: future park at the
Suncoast apartment building The Goderich Area Plan -
which is to he built in the new Hing I3oard sub -committee
subdivision; the future park formed to study the major
on the lakehank in Suncoast's proposals of the Planning Act
nxw subdivision (and passibl,,tcu.i.Q _..cpm ttee _(Comay
Park.
"The plans could be im-
plemented gradually over the
years when the financial and
human resources permit,"
the report stated.' "It is the
members' unanimous feeling
that this approach would be
more creative as well as
more realistic than any ad
hoc development."
The committee agreed that
the town's first experience
with a site plan at Jubilee
Park was "entirely suc-
cessful".
It is understood graduating
students from the School of
Landscape Design are
available to undertake such
projects which would be
completed under the
supervision of Fanshawe
instructors. The students
would get the necessary
practical experience and the
municipality would benefit by
having professional work of
reasonably good quality at
the modest cost, the com-
mittee learned.
Costs would include travel
at 20 cents a , mile, supplies
and an honorarium to the
student or students.
Estimates appear to .he.
between $1,000 and $3,000
which is "entirely out of the
question'" according to the
parks committee,
Further inquiries are being
made by the committee`
members to determine how
feasible the plan will he, or
possible alterations to
achieve the same goals.
