Township chess club
begins sixth season

Last week, The Goderich
Township Chess Club began
its sixth season. Eleven of
last year's members were
present along with four new
members. Kirk Lyndon and
Charlie. MacDonald joined for
their sixth season each
having been with the club
from its beginning. I am
happy to welcorhe as new
members to the club - Steve
Harding, Steve Hammill,
Timmy Reid and John
Warren.

style winning two games
forcing a tie for first placg
with MacDonald who also
'won his first two games. Also
winning their first games of
the season were newcomer
Timmy Reid and Larry
Gower. Timmy is a` 12 -year-
old grade 7 student who

Huroinic Metals and The
Recalls hammered their
opponents for five points to
grab a share of top spot in
men's Monday night bowling
action.
Huromic used a John Hoy
238 single and 604 triple to tag
Boys, Boys for five -out of a
possible seven points and a
season total of,19. Jack
Sprung with a 221 single and
Heinz Sartori tvith a 586 triple
salvaged -a two-point night for
Boys Boys to boost their
season°total to 12 points.
The Recalls picked five
points off Little Bowl to in-
crease their season total to 19
points and a share of first
place with Huromic. Steve
Williams led the Recalls with
a 233 single and a 671 triple.
Sonny Moore was tops on the
Little Bowl squad with a 278
single and 689 triple.
The Tail Ends maintained a.
torrid pace as well nipping
Augies Dogies for five points
to move into second place in
the-. standings, one point
behind the two leaders, -
Tom Willis provided the
punch for the Tail Ends with a
231 single and a 557 triple.
John Miller rolled a 720 triple
on the strength of a 242 single
as the Dogies stayed one step
out of the basement by
raising their second point
total to 11.
B.D.S. refused to lose any
ground to the leaders and
raked the Hopefuls for five
points to stay within three
points of first place. Bruce
Sillih`s 235 single and Charlie
.Johnston's 609 triple boosted
the B.D.S. season total to 16
paints.
The Hopefuls got a
creditable 253 single and 664
triple from Lee Ryan to snare
two points for a season total
of 10 that kept them one notch
ahead of the basement

The GDCI senior girls
basketball team won their
second successive start in
Huron Perth Conference
action last Thursday,
defeating Listowel, 48-43, in
Listowel.
The GDCI girls led 23-14 at
half time.
Karen Pond led the GDCi
scoring with 24 points. She
was also the game's top point -
getter. Lori Norse had 20
points, for Listowel.
Lucie Turcotte contributed
12 points to the GDCI total.
Audrey Vandenheuvel had
four points while Anne Marie
Murphy, Denise Mitchelmore
and Joni Thompson each had
two points for the winners.

win -loss percentage at the
some date, Sam Hassan leads
the pack as his ,750 mark
gives him an increase of ,750
over last season when he
started by losing his first
game. Also improving this
season's start over last year's
are Ron Vanderlinde (.500).
Barry Page (.334) and Larry
Gower (.333).

Bowling club closes seas
The Goderich Lawn
Bowling Club closed their
season with a dinner at North
Street United Church on
Thursday evening, October 6.
The ladies of the Church
served a most delicious meal
to 75 members. Harold
Knisley, President of the
men's club welcomed the
guests and Ed Stiles en-
tertained at the piano and
accompanied a sing -song,
Mrs. Irene White, President
of the ladies' section,
presented silver dollars in
recognition of most at-
tendance and highest total
score for the season.
The recipients of these
