Steelers edge Pontiacs_
The Lakeport Steelers
pushed three runs over in the
top of the second extra inning
and held off a late McGee
Pontiac charge to hand the
Pontiacs their third straight
loss in Industrial League
action. The Steelers caught
four hits and scored three
runs to break a 7-7 tie and
edge the Pontiacs 10.8:`
The Steelers jumped to a
first inning lead that only
lasted until McGee came to
bat. Ron Miller led off the
game with a single and
moved down when Wayne
Draper walked. Brian
MacKenzie was hit by a pitch
and Ed Jones caught a bases
loaded single to score Miller.
Carm Fielder hit a fielder's
'cl}oice that grabbed Draper
at the plate and Tim McLean
singled MacKenzie over. An
error allowed Jones to come
in with the third run.
The Pontiacs tied the game
in their half of the inning. Ron
Sowerby waited out a walk to
start it off and moved to
second on an error to Paul
Kelly, Rick Sowerby singled
Ron home and an error
allowed Kelly to score. Doug
Spitzig drilled a right field
sacrifice fly to score Rick
Sowerby and tie the game.
Carmen Fielder drilled a
one out homer in the third
inning with nobody on to give
the lead back to the Steelers.
Wayne Draper increased the
lead in the fifth when he
singled, moved to second on a
fielder's choice, stole third
and scored on a wild pitch.
Carm „Fielder added another
, run and when he drew a walk,
moved around on a wild pitch
and scored on McLean's
single. The Steelers made it
1 in the sixth when Larry
McCabe singled and scored
on Miller's trip. Miller was
caught in a run down between
third and home and tagged
out.
John Phillips added
another Pontiac run in the
bottom of the sixth when lead
off with a triple and scored on
an error. The Pontiacs rallied
for three runts in the bottom of
the seventh' to force extra
innings. Kelly led off the
drive with a double and came
over ahead of. Spitzig who
smashed a round tripper.
Phillips followed up with his
second triple and Ken
Meriam singled him over
with the tying run.
After a scoreless eighth the
Steelers grabbed three runs
in the top of the ninth for their
second big lead. Draper
doubled to start it off and
MacKenzie drilled one out of
the park for a 1)-. lead. Jones
followed up with a single and
scored on a double by Fielder
before an interference call
and a ground out ended the
burst.
The Pontiacs wouldn't give
up and came back in their
half to score once and left the
tying run at the plate. •S•pitzig
singled to start the inning and
moved to third on John
Phillips' single. Russ Pruder
hit a sacrifice to centre to
score Spitzig but MacKenzie
got Out of trouble getting
Wayne Doak to ground out to
end the game.
MacKenzie was the winner
on a 11 hitter striking out
three while Ken Daer was
touched 14 times in the loss
striking out five.

Pellow threlw 'a three hitter
for the Builders who moved
closer to, first place Ziebart
Rustproofers when they
picked up a win in a protest
over a losing effort with
Canada Company on July 4.
The protest concerned the
Company's using an illegal
player in the game.
Two hits and seven Trucker
errors in the first inning won
the game for the Builders
when they ran up a 3-0 lead.
Cleaners slam Birds 14-0
French Cleaners jumped on
Walter Bell for 15 hits and
devastated the Green and
Parent Thunderbirds 14-0 in
Industrial League action
recently. Don McWhinney
held the Birds to just ,five hits
in the shutout win.
The Cleaners sent 10 men to
the plate in the second inning
and came out with half a;
dozen runs and the win.
George Sutton started the
rally off with a single and
moved down when Jim
McWhinney drew a walk. Ron
Klages drove in two runs with
a two out double and scored
himself when Frank
MacDonald `singled. Bill
Gallow chipped in a single
and Clare Harman singled
and an error on the hit
allowed two more runs to
score. Don McWhinney
grabbed a single to move
Harman to third and an error
allowed him to score for a 6-0
lead.
Sutton drew a walk to start
off a five run third inning for
the Cleaners. John
McGuiness singled to move
"him down and Klages scored
him with a single. Gallow
beat out an error to keep the
drive going and
score McGuiness. Harman
singled to score` Klages and
John Orr lashed a double to
drive in two more before the
Birds ended the misery.
The Cleaners forced an
early end to the game in the
fourth when they grabbed
three more runs. McGuiness
slammed a two out double
and scored on an error to
Klages. MacDonald drew a
walk and G,nllow scored them
both with a tWobagger.
Home run lifts Ziebart to win
Glen Tigert and Simon
Langlois were pitted in a
pitching duel recently and a
two run shot jn the eighth
inning by Dan Duncan lifted
Langlois and Ziebart Rust-
proofers to a 6-4 win over
Canada Company. The
Rustproofers pushed four
runs over in the top of the
sixth to come back from a 3-0
lead but the Company tied the
game in the bottom of the
seventh to force extra in-
nings.
Tom, O'Brien ended a no
hitter for Langlois in the fifth
inning when he doubled after
Bill Durst used a Rustproofer
error to get on base. Terry
Austin smacked a sacrifice
fly to move "O'Brien to third
and he stole home giving the
Company a 2-0 lead.
The Rustproofers took over
the lead in the top of the sixth
grabbing five hits and four
runs to end Tigert's no hitter.
Greg Hansen led off the
burst with a single, but was
forced on a fielder's choice
that left Langlois at first.
Rick Duckworth sent him
home witha double and Wally
Pierson singled to score
Duckworth. Al Sygrove
lashed a double to tie the
game and came home on a
single by Ron Corriveau to
give the Rustproofers a 4-2
lead.
Canada Company came to
within one of the Lead in the
bottom of the inning when Pat
Conlon singled and scored on
a double by Tom O'Keefe.
Terry Austin' tied the game
with one out in the bottom of
the seventh when he singled,
stole second and scored op a
double by Mike Palmer.
Tigert got Don Parker to
round out and- fanned
Sygrove to get the edge on
Ziebart in the top of the first
Bantams win pair
• The Goderich International - Dan Maillet threw a six
Truck Centre Bantams, hitter at the Crediton crew
playing their best baseball of here on Sunday as the
the season, took both ends of a Truckers chalked up their
home and home series with ninth win in eleven league
Crediton last week, winning games.
14-10 in Crediton Wednesday
and 9-3 here on Sunday.
The Truckers came out
swinging the bat in Crediton,
batting around the order in
the first two innings and
sending eight men to the plate
in the third, to pile un a total
of 13 runs.

lead. The company left two
men on base in their half of
the inning but Langlois got
O'Brien to hit a shot back to
the box for the force at first
ending the game.
Langlois ended up winning
with a seven hitter while loser
Tigert was_ caught a dozen
times.

an error and then stole home.
John Verwey was the loser
on a seven hit evening while
winner Pellow fanned nine
