The Goderlch atoms "A"

against Seaforth losing. a
close one 4-3. The game
seesawed back and forth until
the score was tied . 3-3.
Seaforth then scored on 'a
controversial penalty shot to
win 9-3. A tough way to lose a
game. The goalgetters-in the
Atom game were Donald
Phillips scoring two ` and.
David Jewell the other.
The Goderich squirts lost a,
heartbreaker 1-0 in Clinton
with Clinton scoring the one
and only goal with about 35
seconds to play. Fine
defensive play by both teams
highlighted this game with
neither side 'getting many
shots on goal. The Clinton
team seemed to have the edge
on ball possession but had
considerable problems
getting by the Goderich
defense. The Goderich Squirt
team has put up a fine effort
in both their games and are
bound to come 'up .with
several victories this season.

Tennis Tip no. 9
The Volley
The volley is a shot taken before the bounce. It is the
logical conclusion of an aggressive game. At its best,
it is a sharply angled winner. satisfying to the hitter
and demoralizing to the opponent.
This shot is taken between the service line and the no
after hitting an approach shot to the backcourt. The
main points to remember are to keep the head still
while watching the ball, and punching through the
wall instead of swinging.
•
Since you have little time to react to the volley, all
motion is abbreviated at the net: You should try to
pivot your shoulders as in a normal ground stroke but
many times the shot is hit off the wrong foot just to get
the ball back.
Keep your eye on the ball during impact with the
racquet and push ahead as if punching the ball to give
it direction. The power comes from the speed of the
opponent's shotggdthe angle ?of'your return.
