Friday, May 13 in Zurich
after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Goderich to
Mary (Baker) and Charles
Albert Nairn,
She was a member of St,
George's Anglican Church.
She was predeceased by
her husband, R.C. Hays, Q.C.
She is survived by one son,
Robert of Cambridge: one
daughter, Mrs. Roy (Mar-
jorie) Dunlop of Goderich;
five grandchildren; one
sister, Mrs. D.S. (Alice)
McHaffie of Qualicum Beach
B.C. and one brother, Charles
B. Nairn of Dearborn,
Michigan.
Funeral services were held
at St. George's Anglican
Church at 11 a.m. on Monday,
May 16. The Reverend Robert
J. Crocker officiated.
Interment was in Maitland
Cemetery. '
Pallbearers were John
Evans, Dr. Kenton Lam-
bert. Bruce Holmeti.4 John
Graham and Patrick Hume.

Ivy Logan Golden Newton;
died in Sunnybrook Hospital
in Toronto„on May 3 after a
lengthy illness.
She was the daughter of the
late Horace and Mary Ann
Cox Newton. She lived at
Porter's Hill' and Goderich
before moving with her
mother and sister to Toronto
in the early 1900s.
She was predeceased by
her sister. May Logan
Newton. Funeral ,services
were held at .the Trull
Funeral Home on Thursday
evening, May 12. Interment
was in Maitland cemetery.

William Edward Goddard
died on May 12 at Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital
at the age of 75.
He was born on August 14,
1901 in London, England to
Eliza Deborah (Bunker) and
Charles Shirley Goddard, He
moved to Ontario in 1912 and
Had lived in Goderich since
1922.
He married Ethel Noreen
Fisher' in London, Ontario on
July 20, 1939. She survives.

Lutherans open new chu.rc
About 100 members and
friends of Berea -by -the
Water Lutheran Church
attended the first worship
service in the new church
building at the corner of
Duncoast Drive and Gibbons
St. Sunday morning.
The Rev. Marvin Barz_
pastor of Berea -by -the
Water, was assisted at the
cornerstone laying service by
the Rev. Mayo Mellecke, Zion
Lutheran Church, Dashwood.
Pastor Mellecke preached
on the theme "You Are Being
Marked", and said that the
members of the congregation
have been chosen by God to
do His work here in Goderich
He said that just as the new
building stands as evidence
that God's • word
proclaimed here, so the
congregation is marked as
God's witnesses who must
now assist the pastor in
spreading the Good News of
the Gospel.
During the service, , the
cornerstone was put in place
by the chairman of the
congregation- J -:C -Hayter Sr.
and Ken Kelier, elder. •
Following the service, a
pot -luck dinner was served in
the church's education wing

Bjorkquist, a former resident
of Goderich who served as
spiritual leader for the group,•
when it began its service to
the community in February.

worship centre with adjacent
mothers' room and nursery:
an education wing: a pastor's
study and church office: a
compact kitchen; and
washroom and storage
facilities.
The congregation now looks
forward to June 12 when the
official dedication service
will take
Lutherans from place with
across the
province invited to attend.
