site as an alternative core site
to the one on West Street for
senior citizens' housing.
At a meeting last Wed-
nesday, committee chairman
Roman Dzus tlald OHC's
community housing branch
regional cu -ordinator, Sidney
Kaye, that the committee was
"steadfast" 00 a core area
site for senior citizen housing.
This decision, he said, was
based on feedback the
committee had received --from
Goderich citizens.
Kaye said, "If the com-
mittee is adamant about a
core area site. we have no
recourse but to accept that
decision."
However, Kaye said the
core area site could not be
accepted ' yet from, a cost
aspect.
-There will be no com-
mitment from OHC until we
check out factors hearing on
total cost."
OTIC has been pushing a
site on f3cnnett Street
because of its lower cost
advantages. At this site the
fifty unit project would cost
$1600 per unit to build.
Kaye said the (PIC hoard
might okay a $2000 per unit
cost totalling $100,000 for the

to think to remember the bad
ones."
His - career has spanned
many students but he says
one comes to mind when
people ask him if he
remembers any of the
children he taught. 'He recalls
one ,Metis boy he taught in
Manitoba who had, because
of his race. many strikes
against him. He st)id the boy
worked with a .det'ermination
that resulted in him becoming
senior -engineer for Manitoba
Hydro.
He is looking forward to
retiring with the same ex+
citement as he had when he
entered teaching. He says he
has done just • about
everything he wants to in his
profession and now wants to
leave his ,job and do a little
travelling and a little work on
his home.
entire project but nothing
above this figure would be
acceptable.
Dzus said the committee
was more interested in social
benefits than cost and that the
community was willing to
subsidize any land costs
exceeding $100,000 r``f
necessary..
He said the committee feels
that OHC criteria is too rigid.
"We want more flexibility to
design into an area."
Hut Kaye said' OHC must
build according to very strict
standards.
"We have to operate within
a certain cost structure. If we
start operating beyond a
normal cost structure, senior
citizens of Goderich won't get
housing."
He said OHC feels that
senior citizens would prefer
the open space and garden
plots that the Bennett Street
site would offer.

Two Canada Works
Program projects worth a
total of $38,034 have been
approved for the Federal
riding of Huron-Middi'esex.
Manpower and im-
migration' minister Bud
Cullen announced last week
that the two project will
create 11 jobs for a total of 240
man -weeks.
The Conservation Services
Reforestration program of
Exeter will get $9,564 for five
people to plant trees in the
Ausahle-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority water-
shed, for a total of 60 man -
weeks. •
The Huron County
Plowmen's Association will
get $28,470 for six jobs to

that senior citizens are fixed
on a core area site," he said.
The Housing Action
Committee has asked OHC to
do another feasibility study
on the West Street site, taking
into consideration the new
boundaries created by two
additional properties on
Lighthouse Street. OHC will
also do two more feasibility
studies on the Bennett and
Nelson Street sites.
All information from the
studies will be shown to the
committee. Dzus said up until
this time the committee has
had to make decisions
without having access to such
information.
"There has been a lack of
co-operation between this
committee and OHC," he
said. "How can you play the
game when the other guy is
the only one who knows all the
rules?"
Kaye has assured the
committee that any 'in-
formation relating to the
housing project site will be
made available to the com-
mittee.
Committee member Gerry
Ginn said, "This is the first
sign of co-operation here
today. I think there has been
a lack of communication on
our own committee."
After.--lookiig over 'the
feasibility studies, the
Housing Action Committee
will have an internal debate
and come up with a consensus
on site selection.

While on a hristmas
vacation in Britain 1 rented "a
car which was involved in an
accident. I agreed to pay for
the necessary repairs and was
assured that I would be
reimbursed. I'm now getting
very worried about this
because I've written several
letters to the car rental
agency and up till now haven't
received a reply or even an
acknowledgment of my claim.
It seems that somebody at
the English Avis Company has
goofed. In a very apologetic
letter to our reader they state
that their records show this
claim as having been settled
and paid, and they are at quite
a loss to know why it Wasn't!
The important thing is, that
our reader did have a cheque
enclosed with his letter, for
the full amount of his claim.

I have been a Chargex
customer for sometime but
decided recently to cancel my
account. This I attempted to
do by registered mail, that
was in January and it still
hasn't been cancelled.
According to an employee at
the Commerce Chargex
Centre, it takes "time" to
close out an account because it
has to stay in the computer for
a "certain length of time"; in
case any back billings arrive.
The Chargex people also
claim that a person could
cancel and then start reusing
their account. They point out
too, that a large number of
merchants are very slow in
sending in their bills.
These are some of the
reasons we received but it
seems very complicated to us.
Patience must indeed be a
virtue!

A reader wants to know if
there is any recourse against a
high pressure salesperson who
overexaggerates or simply
does not tell'the truth.
According to the Ontario
Ministry of Consumer and
Commercial Relations "If the
sales pitch is not true, then it's
illegal," and if you believe
that a salesperson has used
deception to make a sale, then
the sales agreement can be
cancelled, and if necessary
the consumer can take the
salesperson to court or apply
to the Ministry to mediate the
dispute, and usually when this
happens a solution is quickly
found.
The Ministry offer these few
words of advice to all -con-
sumers. "Use common sense
when buying, dont be greedy
and make sure you query big
promises."
