During the last two years
several hundred society
volunteers including scien-
tists, physicians and laymen
have worked together to
consider how best to conquer
arthritis in Canada.
The result is a challenging
program involving the
development of a sufficient
number of rheumatologists
and adequately trained
family physicians to deal with
this major health problem;
to increase support of
research into the cause and
control of arthritis; and the
development of adequate
communications and un-
derstanding with the public,
patients, 'physicians,
educators, those in business
and industry working
together to conquer arthritis.
In his financial report Mr.
Morrison said that the Society
volunteers through Cam-
paigns and United Ways now
provide almost $2,000,000
each year for the training of
arthritis specialists and
medical research. If real
progress is to be made in the
future, he said,. Canadians
must prxiVide more than
$4,000,000 for this program in
1981. "
Region Chairman Mrs.
Roma Sargent reported on
succels of the 1976 activities
andh kports of successful
profee-ts were given by
volunteers.
