The Goderich Signal-Star, 1977-04-28, Page 15This past week has been Education Week and during that time-paxents have taken the opportunity to visit Colborne School classrooms to see classes in action throughout the day. On Thursday evening the school observed their yearly Open House and parents and interested friends started to gather at the school at 7:30 p.m. to see how their children were doing in their grades. All classrooms were in- teresting to view. The primary and junior grades have been taking advantage of the spring weather as was evident by the displays in classrooms in the form of kites, umbrellas and flowers. Also in the primary classrooms there were special welcomes to mother and father expressed in the children's art work. The intermediate and senior hall walls were papered with posters in French and made an in- teresting addition to the corridors. Grade 6 pupils have been using a reading machine which was demonstrated during the evening. New to our school and demonstrated in the library is a video tape machine. This allows programs of educational value to be taped and then teachers may use these as they fit into their programs. Mr. Gary Fisher, a student from teacher's college, is spending two weeks ob- serving and assisting in teaching in grade 8 with Mr. Snell's class. Some time was allowed parents and friends to view the rooms and talk with teachers. Other interested parents and friends, assembled ` in the gym or auditorium for the en- tertainment of the evening which certainly was out- standing. Mr. John Kane, principal of the school, acted as chairman welcoming all and thanking pupils, parents and teachers for their interest and pride in Colborne School. There were students from different grades giving an. outstanding gymnastics display which was supervised by the, teacher, Mr. Harman. Another form of special entertainment was a musical interlude presented by a group of students from grades 5 to 8. The singing was accompanied by groups of students playing guitars, recorders and ukeleles all under the direction of teacher Mr. Snell. The harmony in the numbers was very pleasing and exceptionally well done. All seemed to -have a part to play .in the evening's per- formance and Grade 6 pupils acted as hosts and hostesses, directing visitors to the iti ooms and taking the responsibility of serving the delicious lunch which was prepared by Mrs. Kane, assisted by several of the teachers. The Open House evening showed various forms of education such as learning in the classrooms, gymnastics, music and public presen- tation, serving the public as friendly hosts and hostesses. A word of thank& is due the teachers for their interest in the pupils. The students of Grades 7 and 8 are looking forward to attending a Huron County ° ' GODERICH SIGNAL STAR THURSDAY, APRIL 28,1977—PHAGE 15 Iborne Central su ensgivoaaccount elec ) rig n, se Im, as eswatik w frets 1111 TRE ton )411; and over nie Dustow proved her willingness to try anything when she agreed to attempt a head spring off the horse at the Colborne Public School gymnastic held for open house last week during education activities.
