School can be great fun folks
Several girls of the grade 7 class at St. Joseph's School Kingsbridge
delighted the audience with a novel skit titled Charlie's Show Time. The cast
of the show displayed versatility by playing several roles throughout the
skit. Cast member of Charlie's Show Time included, Yvonne Sinnett, Rose
Marie O'Keefe, Annie Van Diepen, Diane Miltenburg, Jackie Van Osch,

Prize winners at the weekly
euchre party held in the
Auburn Community
Memorial hall on April 19th
were as follows: Novelty,
Mrs. Elma McFarlane; high
lady, Mrs. James Glousher:
low lady, Mrs. Roy Daer;

man, David Cartwright. Four
tables were in play.

Education Week at St"
Joseph's school, Kingsbridge
was one of great activity for
parents, teachers and'
students. The week was
opened with a Community
Mass that was well attended.
Mr. Bill Kinahan, the school
trustee, read the lesson and
Father Dentinger spoke to the
congregation about the spirit
of education week "Growing
With Dignity".
House League Floor
Hockey playoffs saw Mon-
treal lose to Saskatchewan 2
to 3. In the evening Grade 8
students who will be at-
tending high school at
Wingham attended Orien-
tation Night at F.E. Madill
Secondary School, Wingham.
Grades 1,2,3, and 4 attended
the Stratford Music Festival
on Tuesday. April 19 and •
returned to the school.with a
Third Prize in the Grade 3
Choir competition. Mrs.
Nancy Park, the grade 3 and 4
teacher is to be congratulated
on a job well done. Back at
the school, the Grade 7 and 8
students were competing in
the French Public Speaking
program.
"ALLOCUTION
FRANCHISE"
Tuesday afternoon, April
19th saw 38 Grade 7 and 8
pupils assemble in St.
Joseph's school, Kingsbridge,
- to contest their French
oratorical skills. The 20
Grade 8 students composed
personal sketches of them-
selves "en Francais", while
Grade 7 demonstrated a
sample of prescribed
reading. Each orator strove
to observe the basic rules of
French pronunciation liasion
and gesture as taught by their
teacher Terry Bullen.
Last minute on-stage
flourishes caused judges

and language co-ordinator of
the Goderich District
Collegiate Institute, Paul
Howe lengthy- discussion
before finalists were an-

nounced. Cash prizes from
the Garvey Memorial Fund
were presented to Seniors
(Grade 8). Debbie Austin won
first, Brian Drennan' won
second and Dean Doherty
won third. In Grade 7, Annie
Van Diepen won first, Rose
Marie O'keefe won second
ans, Jeannette Pelletier won
third. Credit is given to
Principal David Zyluk whose
foresight timetabled this
project some months ago with
a view to the vital position
French . is assuming in our
country.
Public Speaking continued
on Wednesday, '20, with the
Kindergarten to Grade 4
competitions. Winners were
as follow: Kindergarten: A.
song entitled "Bingo", Vrst,
Patty Durnin; second, Elmer
Foran; and 'third, Sharon
VanOsch. Kindergarten:
Poem entitled „ "Just Me"
first, Wendy Miltenburg;
second, Lisa Foran; third,
,Lisa Smith. In Grade 1:
Maureen Stapleton was
placed first for her song "The
Little Bird". Mary Anne
Franken was first with a
poem called "The End",
Ronald Plasschaert was-
second
assecond and Maurice
Delbergue third. "If I Were A
Fish, another poem found
Armand Forgett and Lisa
Card tied for first place; Lisa
Durnin was second and
Angela O'Neil third, -Grade 2:
Angela Foran placed first
with the song `'The Robin"
and Mary Katherine
Stapleton placed second. Paul
VanRooy, Tommy
VanDiepen and Dennis Foran
placed in that order with a
poem entitled "My Shadow".
"That Sweet Story of Old", a
poem saw Christine Turcotte
first, Darrell Durnin, second
and Agnes VanOsch third.
Grade 3: The newest student
at Kingsbridge Cathy
O'Connor placed first in a
song called "Come A Dan-
cing". This was a Grade 3
cagetory. A poem "The Elf
and the Dormouse" was
extremely close resulting in
three two way ties. First,
Theresa Foran and Linda
VanOsch; second, John
Van Osch and Sally VanOsch
and third, Stephen VanOsch
and Jackie Delbergue.
Winner of the speeches were
Maria Dalton and Craig
Riegling second and Lonny
Doherty third. Grade 4:
Shannon Durnin won the
grade four song contest with
the song "A -Roving". "The
Proud Frog" a poem had
Ronnie Delbergue first; Mary
Lynn Doherty second and.
Freddie Durnin third. In the
speeches there were two
more two way ties: first,
Tommy Gilmore and
Christine Stapleton; second,
Billy Bard; and third, Raul
Foran and Kenny VanOsch.
KINDERGARTEN
REGISTRATION
On Thursday Grades 1 to 4
went to the Pinecrest Nursing
Home in Lucknow and en-
tertained the senior citizens.
While these grades were in
Lucknow, Kindergarten
registration was held. Eight
students registered (the
father's names in brackets):

HOUSE LEAGUE
HOCKEY
The House League
Hockey finals were ex-
citing. Saskatchewan
emulated the Toronto Maple
Leafs and allowed Edmonton
to come from behind to tie the
regular game score 2-2.
Edmonton then won in sudden
death overtime.
In the evening parents
attended Open House, and also
heard the first place winners
of the Garvey Public
Speaking contest.

on "Drugs". Mary Luanne
has reached the multiple
District A Final which in-
cludes Ontario, Quebec and
Labrador which is sponsored
by the Lions International
Club. ''Mary Luanne is
sponsored by the Lucknow
branch. Cookies and .coffee
were served and a social hour
enjoyed by parents, teachers
and students.
On Friday morning, April
school opened with Mass.
At the Offertory the students
took donations for Mission
Hope or for the Children's Aid
Society • to the altar. Mr.
Bruce Heath accepted these
donations on Monday ' on
behalf of the Children's Aid
Society.
In the afternoon students
presented a program in the
school gymnasium—with all
grades taking part,

There were solos by Christine
Stapleton, Patrick Frayne,
Stephen Frayne, Heather Ann
