(staff photo) Registration down GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THlJRSDAY, AP Figure maters hold arin* meeting The annual meeting of the Goderich Figure Skating Club was held on Tuesday, April 12 at the Assessment building and the executive apologize for anyone who wasn't able to attend because of the locked door, Total registration this year was 52 skaters down greatly from other years because of having to move to the Vanastra Arena. Test Chairman Betty Harris reported 39 national were passed and 60 C,F,S.A, tests passed this season, The Club competion was held at Vanastra this season on February 5, and Inter Club was held in Mitchell on March 6, The Private Lesson Chairman, Alberta Moore, reported approximately 90 skaters took private lessons. The Club . members and skaters raised a total $1,3360 for the arena building fund out at the Suncoast Mall through a series of Tag Day Blitzes. TheClub held a Christmas party for alt the skaters the last Saturday before Christmas, the coaches received engraved pens and chocolates, and the skaters hotdogs, hot chocolate and candy canes. The Way and Mean had a successful bake sale and raffle at the legion in the fall at the snowflake bazaar and another at - the mall in December. The nominating committee was chaired by Aberta Moore with fourteen names for the board members and nine names for assistants to the different chairmans. A meeting will be held in about three weeks to fill the positions for the different Committees.. An ice meeting which is being held May 30 will be attended by our president, vice president, treasurer and test chairman. Congratulations to Debbie Jeffrey, Connie de Haas, and Tracey McEwan who skated in North Bay at a "Date to Skate" on Easter Weekend, A general meeting will be held in the fail. "Tile OBA will presept 23 crests to members of the championship team and 23 crests to the members of the runnerup teams." , At Wednesday's meeting la§t week, several WOAA motions were passed. There were four proposed by the executive and two from the Listowel Minor Baseball. Association. The first ,motion from the executive which was passed was one which will raise the entry fee for all clubs by $3 per team. The second one increased the umpires fees from $8 and $13 to $l0'tnd $15. The third motion proposed by the elective, and passed, dealt with certificate tax. It 'now reads: "Certificate Tax for senior and junior teams shall he $2 per certificate. All minor teams shall be •$1.25 per certificate. All cer- tificates retained by the clubs will also be charged this -fee. Failure to do this, said club will not be allowed to par- ticipate' in scheduled games." The, fourth motion proposed and passed from the eliecutive had to do with how certificates were processed, This now reads: "Playing C40 10,4 s it be )he responsibility of the town association to make sure they are processed at the expense of the league and returned to said town by appointment through the WOAA office." This last motion takes the responsibility off the shoulders of Conveners and puts it squarely on the shoulders of the Associations.. One proposal from the Listowel Minor Baseball Association was withdrawn and will be sent to the WOAA executive for approval at the annual meeting in October. The second proposal by Listowel had to do with the membership section of the constitution, It now reads: "Any club wishing to compete in WOAA baseball for a particular season must complete an entry form and send it with the prescribed fees (including required performance bonds) to, the Secretary Manager by -April 30 of that year, "Any club not registered by till's date will not be allowed to µcompete in WOAA baseball or es a WOAA representative in the OBA playoffs for that season. Any club with- drawing after June- 1 will forfeit their team registration and performance bond." In other business at the meeting, some discussion was made .in regard to the Red Henry Tournament. Clinton hosted the tour- nament last year which is a single -knockout affair, However. they made the suggestion that it become a double -knockout tournament in the future. No decision was made as to where the tournament will be played this year but two towns gave, indications they might be willing to be the host. Walkerton and Gorrie both wanted more- time to decide for sure. There was some discussion on whether to continue the inter -locking schedule with the Huron -Perth league in the senior division.
