"We've delegated people to
sit on the budget committee,"
Mrs. Wallace told Mrs.
Haydon. "We have to take
what they've done on trust or
else the whole board would
have to go over tho budget
and there would he no point in
appointing a budget com-
mittee."
She told the Goderich
delegation the members of
town council should not have
to answer to the people of
oderich concerning the
board's taxes.
"Your only answer when
you are asked is to tell
ratepayers to get in touch
with the school trustees,"
said Mrs. Wallace.
"We're not asking you to
run interference for us,"
interjected Cayley Hill.
Deputy -reeve Eileen
Palmer told Hill and Wallace.
as well as othc'r board
members present, that the
`hoard budget "definitely
controls.' Goderich's
municipal budget.
"We can only request a
very small increase for
municipal work without
causing real hardship for
some of our residents," Mrs.
Palmer said. She claimed
that for the past 'four or five
years; Goderich has only
been able to approve a
"housekeeping" budget after
consideration of county and
county school board requests.
"You've brought your point
home." Hill told Mrs. Palmer
and the Goderich group.
"And you've done it in in a
good way. Maybe we can
work together on this."
