Mr. Lewis also called on the Government to ask for an early end to the federal anti- inflation program. As well, the N.D.P. leader criticized the administration of the Workmen's Com- pensation Board. Mr. Lewisecalled on the Government to make the teaching of French obligatory at some level in elementary schools. He said grants could he given as incentives to boards to teach other languages as well. Liberal Leader Stuart Smith said he would not force a provincial election over the Throne Speech, but found much to criticize in the Government's handling of the economy Dr. Smith said the economy is sick and Treasurer Darcy McK cough ;h iS optimistically 11Ca ll y predicting it 5 percent growth rate, while the Conference Board of Canada predicts 2.9 percent. Youth unemployment means the! Government has ".broken faith" with young people, Dr. Smith said. He called for an Ontario youth service to create public service jobs fur young people. About 1,6511 civil service jobs in Metro Toronto are to he relocated in Kingston and Oshawa as some of the first major steps of the Ontario Government's long -promised Go Fast policy The costs to the province of moving staff and of extensive travel back and forth is expected to he $9 u million in the first few months of the program. The head office of ()HIP will ,he moved' to Kingston, and will involve PO jobs. As well as the birds who wintered in the south, quite a number of Port Albert's' summ • er neighbours are showing up also. Welcome back! Sunday being nice, Port Albert was busy with traffic. Church News April 3rd was Palm Sunday at Christ Church with a good attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Love Loves still in love The long, brown curls and sparkling blue eyes of Annie Jarrott captured the heart of Hugh Love when they both went,to the little country schooat S.S. no. 3 Hay Township over 80 year's ago. and she has had it ever since. Saturday, Mr, and Mrs. Love celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Huronview where they have lived for the past six months. "We have to take what they've done on trust or else the whole board would have to go over tho budget and there would he no point in appointing a budget com- mittee." She told the Goderich delegation the members of town council should not have to answer to the people of oderich concerning the board's taxes. "Your only answer when you are asked is to tell ratepayers to get in touch with the school trustees," said Mrs. Wallace. "We're not asking you to run interference for us," interjected Cayley Hill. "We can only request a very small increase for municipal work without causing real hardship for some of our residents," Mrs. Palmer said. She claimed that for the past 'four or five years; Goderich has only been able to approve a "housekeeping" budget after consideration of county and county school board requests.
