Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt were pleasantly
surprised when their family
hosted a surprise party on the
occasion of their 40th wedding
anniversary at the home of
their eldest sun, George
Haggitt, Mrs. Haggitt and
family at Zurich.
The guests were welcomed
by their family - Mr. and Mrs.
George Haggitt; Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Haggitt of R.R. 1
Woodham and Stephen
Haggitt of Auburn.
Over 50 relatives and
friends signed the guest card
in charge
of the only gran-
ddaughter,, Haggitt of
Zurich. The smorgasbord
dinner table was centred with
a decorated anniversary
cake.
The bridal .couple of 40
years received many gifts of
ruby colored vases etc. and
many cards to mark the
occasion. -
Guests were present from
Nobleton. Goderich, Ben -
millet', Auburn, Centralia,
Elmvale and Blyth.
SOCIAL NEWS
Don't forget that•the annual
meeting of the Auburn
Women's Institute will be
held next Tuesday on April 19
at 12:30 with a smorgasbord
luncheon. The dessert and.,
coffee will, he served by the
hostesses. Everyone is asked
to bring a dish fur the first
course. Mrs. Ivan Wightman., •
the District president will be
the guest. Everyone, is
welcome -. a display of crafts
will be held.

company wants to he sure it
hays the depth required -to load
vessels to rapacity.
Goderich harbormaster
Allan MacDonald says the
present situation is probably
part of a cycle and points out
that levels are still slightly
above average. Recent years
have seen -exceptionally high
'water and over the summer
Of 1977 levels are destined to
drop still further. Mr.
MacDonald notes that about
10 years ago the levels were
three feet 'below even this
season's mark.
Flooded docks at Snug
Harbor are likely to he a thing
of the, past but some boaters
may find shallow water in slip
docks along the ,inner part of
the facility' as those docks
were installed when water
was high.
The harbormaster says it is
unlikely the lower water will
have any serious economic
effect hut admits that 1,000
fewer tons on every vessel
loading at Goderich harbor
could acid up quickly over the
length of the shipping season,

TRUSTEES MEET
The village trustees met for
their April meeting in the
town hall with the chairman,
Warner- Andrews in the chair.
The minutes were accepted
as read by the village clerk
Frank Raithby.
The trustees have to repair
the roof of the fireball and the
siren will have to be repaired.
It was .stated that the fire
engine has been started and
serves to he in good repair.
It was announced that new
street lights could cost up to
sl 0,000 with 35 lights on 10 ft.

Tickets are being solcj in
advance and any local

dinner which will be served at
noon by the Auburn
Women's Institute.

prizes which are being
donated by business people in
the village.
An invitation was to be sent

Correspondence on trips
was read and also plans to
attend the Ontario Hor-
ticultural annual meeting in
Windsor on June ]5 - 17th.
Mrs. Dprothy Grange was
named delegate to the
District annual and the first
open meeting of the Auburn
Society will be held on May 2.
