The referee in Monday night's final game between Goderich

playdowns Monday night
when they dropped the fifth
game of their "series with
Glanbrook 7-6. The midgets
went into the game needing a
win in regulation time to tie
the series and a win in
overtime to win it.
Goderich got on the board
first when Gary Peters
scored from Mike Larkin and
Roger Lewis at 8:18 of the
first. Just over two minutes
later Terry Whitehead scored
to tie the game • but Rick
Rawson picked up a loose
puck a minute later and fired
it past Glanbrook netminder
Michael Berry to give
Goderich the lead back.
Glanbrook grabbed the
tieing marker just before the
end of the period when John
Cook fired a blistering drive
from about 30 feet out that
cleanly beat Goderich
backstop Gerry Gaynor. Five
minutes into the second
period Glanbrook took the
lead on a neat three way play •
finished off by Cook for his
second goal. Two minutes
later Ivan Brunton made it 4-2
Glanbrook.
Goderich fought back in the
final minutes of the middle
stanza and took a 4-4 tie to the
dressing room. With 1:17 left
in the second Dale Duncan
cut Glanbrook's lead to one
with help from Hugh Hanly
and Gary Peters. With 40
seconds left Steve Arbour tied
the game with Roger Lewis
and Terry Kisch getting
assists.
Glanbrook used two
. Goderich errors to get their
two goal lead back early in
the third. Danny Douthart
picked off an errant Goderich
pass and fed Terry Whitehead
and Glanbrook led 5-4. Just
over a minute later Glan-
brook broke -up another
Goderich passing play and
Michael Haslam - shovelled
the puck past Gerry Gaynor
to make it 6-4.
Goderich kept coming back
and with 4:17 played in the
period made it 6-5 on a play
by Paul Helesic, Roger Lewis
and Steve Arbour, Arbour
getting the goal. With five
minutes left Glanbrook
scored what proved to be the
winner when Ivan Brunton
beat Gaynor. Goderich came
within one of tieing it on an
effort by Steve Arbour with
four minutes left. Roger
Lewis assisted on the goal.
With 29 seconds left the
teams bade farewell to one
another with a "boys will be
boys" brawl. Goderich pulled
goalie Gerry Gaynor for a
sixth attacker and with the
puck in ' Glanbrook's zone
Roger Lewis started mixing
things up with goalie Michael
Berry. The Glanbrook
defense, in a chivalrous
manner came to the aid -of
their netminder sparking
Steve Arbour to get involved.
The referees had just cleared

'from getting involved. The effort failed as both benches
cleared and even some fans hopped over the boards to join
the action. Glanbrook won the game 7-6 to clinch the series.
