The Huron Gaol has formally closed
for the winter months, having concluded
its third season of operation as a federal
historic site. Attendance figures totalled
15,750, a slight, increase over the
previous year.
The Board learned at its Thursday,
December 9 meeting- that operating
receipts totalled $22,415, slightly ex-
ceeding expenditures which were $22,386
to November 30. The Board also retains
- a small surplus account for use during*
the off-season for repairs, maintenance
and further restoration. Approximately
$8,000 will be' used,as preparations are
made for the 1977 season.
Anticipated repair work to the walls,

future date.` -Anticipated LIP funding
was not forthcoming for this year.
In other financial business, Curator
Harry Bosnell advised the Board to
increase its budget allotment for basic
services to the facility, citing the rapid.

Canada Pensuon
benefits rise 8.2
• Health and Welfare Minister Marc
Lalonde hasannounced that .the. 865,000
Canada Pension Plan beneficiarins will
receive increases of 8.2 per cent starting
in January, 1977.
The increase, calculated on the .past
year'srise in the cost of living as
measured by, the Consumer Price. Index,
will apply • to all persons in receipt of
Canada Pension Plan benefits' as of
December 31, 1976. The !increases will be
reflected in the January; cheques.
The maximum • retirement . pension
effective January, 1977, will be $173.61,
• per, month. The maximum disability
pension payable in 1977 will be $175,05
• per month, while benefits for 'disabled
contributors' , children and orphans of
deceased contributors will be $44:84 per
month. Maximum monthly surviving
spouses' pensions_ will be $109;94 for
o .
persons under .age 65 and $1-04.17 for
spouses 65 or older. '
Of the estimated 865,000 persons who
will be in receipt of Canada Pension Plan
benefits at 'the end of December, some
139,100 will be retirement pensioners;
135,000 will be surviving spouses, and
61,200, will be disability pensioners.
Another 117,700 benefits relate to
children .who,are receiving benefits as
orphans or children of disabled: con-
tributors.
In addition, there are some 12,000
combined benefits, such as for a Sur -
40, viving spouse in receipt of a retirement
pension as well as a survivor's benefit.
