Feeding the human. race
can run from the sublime to
the ridiculous, but it appears
that Mother Nature is step-
ping in and showing us that
the pioneers were kept
healthy and happy on the
grain and fibre which they
ate.
Grain and fibres - great -
have always believed that
minerals and vitamins and
roughage were very im-
portant in our food and that
tea minus the tannic acid was
a great drink (providing you
don't think of it as 'weak'
tea).
Since the big experiments
made with the Africans and
their diet and diseases" a
great deal ,has been said for
whole grain and raw fruit and
vegetables.. Now they are all
advertising fibre this and
fibre that on T.V.
I thought I might,try a loaf
of their new fibre special
bread since I like the whole
wheat bread so picked up a

Mrs. Alice Jones, formerly of Goderich celebrated her
90th birthday on Wednesday, November 24. •
• She with her husband -and little boy, the eldest of six
children, came to: Canada from Wales . in . 1911. They •
settled in southern Saskatchewan and Mrs. Jones vividly
recalls the drought, hail, grasshoppers and, dust storms
' of the 30s.
The family moved to Ontario in the fall of 1937. Mrs.
Jones. has been a resident of Petrolia for the past three
and a half years having previously lived on a farm near
Forest and later in Goderich.
Her son, Ken Jones and wife and family reside on
Bennett Street irtGoderich.
Over 80 friends and relatives visited her during the
days of 'birthday. celebrations. Lorne Henderson MPP
• presented a beautiful .plaque on behalf of the Ontario.
Government. l3est wishes were received from John
Diefenbaker and from Premier BilrDavis,•
Other highlights of .the special occasion included long
distance telephone calls from friends and the new family •
and gifts and calls from the ,grandchildren in Mexico;
New York, Michigan; Saskatoon and Pangman, Sask.;
'and Haliburton, Tiverton, Goderich and Forest. \
Several cards were received along With many flAral
• arrangemenp giving her living room the ,cheery
iat-
mosphere of a springtime flower garden. There was also
a cassette from great grandchildren singing "gappy
birthday Grandma."
Mrs. Jones 'lives with her daughter,;Miss Louise„Jories .

Church..She says she is thankful for the Lord's goodness
to her throughout her life.
with
dropped it in the cart. when I
noticed the price . . , eighty -
some • cents! "They must
think we're nuts," I exploded
- and those nearby laughed
and agreed.
' Then there are the five
foods - common, easy to get
and inexpensive, miracle
foods.
There is brewers yeast
which adds prpteins, supplies
vitamins • that keep the skin
youthful and • resilient. Walt
says he's never tried the
powder or the tablets, he likes
his in liquid form. .
Well, I hate it in ANY forrri,
• but I seem t have more and
more of the . "youthful,
resilient" skin every day, so
that yeast must come from
the pastry and cakes I eat.
• Wheat germ - I buy a new
box.'every six .months use it a
few times and then let it sit on
the shelf..But, I agree,. wheat
germ is excellent - so use it..
Avocados - great for your
skin, especially: if you have
eruptions and tissue
problems. Figure that out for
yourself - I don't know if you
eat that 'A' pear or rub it on.
Last Sunday w.e visited •
brother Ira and' wife in
• Sarasota and they have an
avacado pear tree in their
yard. At this point in time, the
pears are real large and in
the middle of the night
awaken both he and the
neighbourby falling - BANG -
ori one of the trailers. -
So I have four nice big 'A'
pears and I am warned to use
Jets a lemon juice On them -
you have to GIVE them
flavor, someone warned, or
you wont like them.
At the store they get 85
cents each for them how
much are they up there?
Well, use every bit an
massage the peel into yo
face - It'sGOOD for it - it says
so right in the book!
Powdered skim milk - add
44.to regular milk for its for-
tifying value, .great incoffee
• plus some wheat germ. -
delicious 'and full of protein.
Try it. You can cut down on
that expensive coffee and
have another different drink,
like weak tea.
Yogert, great for the
system. Laced with flavored
brewers yeast and powdered
