-Francis Gay
Ann Saint Jean, Activity .
Director of Maitland Manor
spoke to WDO on Wednesday, ;
December 1. She made
members realize that the
worjd is indeed always
young; and all too often
Senior Citizens are neglected.
• Since this is . a mobile
society, families move away'
from their older relatives. It ,
"therefore becomes the
Community's responsibility to
care for those who have
pass.,ethe .prime :of life. .
Ann :said that the social.,
recreational andspiritual
needs of Senior Citizens must
bet. met. When we think of
these people, - perhaps we
place too much emphasis on
the SENIOR•, and forget that
they are valuable CITIZENS
.as wel-1.
Old folks have so much that
they can offer us, and we in
turn can .bring some hap-
piness into their hearts. by
offering our friendship.
O.A.P. stands for Old Age
Pensioner. But by observing
some of our seniors, 1 was
surprised by their spirit of
independence. 'In spite of
aches and pains, each day is a
new experience to be lived to
the fullest. So I can't help but
feel that in many cases,
O.A.P. also means Old And
Proud.
. If' you are interested in
assisting with the activities at
Maitland Manor - call.. Ann
Saint Jean. You don't need
any special talents - the best
way to help would be ,to visit
with these precious people.
Remember these • _Senior
Citizens_ are the ones who
established our community -
we must not forget them.
R. E. McKinley, MP for
Huron, advised late last week
that the Ministry of. Health
will be sending : out federal
•assistance cheques . •earlier
than usual this month.
Federal..Incom.: Security
cheques for December will;be
• •ssued earlier than usual this,
"How early sets the glowing .
sun, r
And darkness early falls.
And old and lonely souls,may
sigh ,
If no one ever calls.
How •welcome is the someone
who
Pops in to say, "Nowa' how
are you?" .
= Francis Gay.
See you Next Week.
