home a silver medal from the
Western Ontario Sectional
Championships held. in St.
Catharines, Thursday,
Friday and Saturday of last
. week.
The pair had moved up
from. Novice level to Junior
level and were skating for the
first time in Junior level of
competition. They knew they
,; would be_ competing against
veterans of three years in the
Junior level of competition
who had been training in
England.
However, after. Rusty and
Karen ,skated in the first part
of their competition,. the
Compulsory Dances ori
Friday evening, they were
• Marked less than one point
behind the first place pair by
the judges.
- Saturday nighti, they
competed with the. \second
apart of their competition, the
Free Dance, a, three :minute
program set to the music of
their choice and composed of
intricate steps and lifts;They,
had only been -working on this

for two months but were once
again given a close second by
the panel of judges and
presented with thesilver
medal.
They were then chosen to
represent Western Ontario at
the Central Canadian
Championships, • (Manitoba
and Ontario) to be held in
January in Guelph. They
hope to place in the top four
there which will enable them
to travel to Calgary, Alberta,
to compete in the Canadian
Championships in February.
Competing against Rusty
and. Karen in the St.
Catharines competitions in
Junior Dance were skaters
from St. Catharines, London,
Guelph, Preston and Delhi.
On Sunday Rusty and
Karen were asked to give a
derfionstration of their
skating at the closing
ceremony of the South-
western
Ontario Regional
Winter Games which were
held in St. Thomas last week.
