The Goderich Signal-Star, 1976-11-25, Page 15Industrial curling race tightens
On Thursday, November 11,
the Industrial League began
its second season with a full
turnout and some exciting
games. This year there are
nine teams fighting for the
two division trophies.
-Opening night saw last
year's champions continue
their winning ways and a
newcomer made his power
obvious, The Financial Team,
skipped this year by Larry
IGI"CGrath, won a game that
required an extra end from a
tough Kinsmen Club led by
Dave Cloet. The Assessment
Office, a new team this year,
opened their season by
dumping the DRMCO Plant
team 'by the score of 8 to 1:
Skip Dennis LeBrun and his
team look very tough.
In other matches; Victoria
and Grey defeated last year's:
"B" Division Champions,
DRMCO Office, 8 to 4 and in a
family fued the Teacher
Number 2 Team beat the
Teacher Number 1 Team 6 to
5.
The ninth team of the
league, Teacher Team
Number 3, was defeated by an
experienced "Skip's Choice"
team 6 to 4 at 9 o'clock. This
match is part of an ex-
periment . to put Industrial
League teams up- against the
more experienced teams of
Ron Klages' Skip's Choice
League.
After\two weeks of curling
three teams, remain , un-
defeated and tied for first
place in the fight for the
Signal Star Trophy. The
Financial Team, Assessment
Office and Victoria and
Grey all have perfect records
so far this season. Their
victories, however, were not
easy. All three teams, had to_
come from behind to win.
A couple of clutch shots by
Hugh Doggett got Victoria
nd Grey by the Teachers
Number 3 Team while similar
shots were needed by Larry
McGrath and team to
overcome an early deficit and
defeat the Teacher Number 2
Team, The Assessment
Office, this week skipped by
Greg Hanson, showed the
Skip's • -Choice League • that
they will have to play well if
they are going to win the
challenge matches between
leagues. Hanson and Co.
handed Tom Love's foursome
a 7 to 5 defeat.
In other matches, Teacher
Team Number 1 jumped out
to a quick lead then held on as
a determined DRMCO plant
team made it closer Final
score was 8 to 7 Special
mention must go to George
ij
Yo g, a new curler on the
teacher team, who curled
over 80 per cent for his team.
The DRMCO Office Team
was also the victim off a close
ladies
match as the Kinsmen Team
downed them 9 to 8. Skip
Dave Cloet was happy to win
this close one after losing a
heartbreaker last week while
the DRMCQ Office boys" are _
wondering what•victory feels
like. DRMCQ Plant and the
Teacher Number 3 Team`
must be wondering the same
thing - Oh well, maybe next
week.
