Salute to those who paid the price of freedom h'hstian Farmers income biN will cause trouble The Christian - Farmers Federation of Ontario has criticized the government's revised Farm Income Stabilization bill as being an incentive to production. At its November meeting the C.F.F. Executive Board adopted a resolution to send a• letter oto all Members• of the Provincial Legislature , warning` them that the passing of the bill would provide a major incentive to production and result in problems with controlling the amount of production. ".We have no choice but to reject. the whole set up," said John Janssens, an egg producer from Watford in Lambton County, and ----Pre, sill -ant of the Chris Farmer's Federation of Ontario., "This bill, if im- plemented, will be A major incentive to production.,to the members of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario. 95 percent of the five year average price is a guarantee that our farmers will be' profitable. This will force other programs to control production." The ,,C.F.F. Executive's resolution reads : Be it resolved that the C.F.F. write a letter to all Members of the Provincial Legislature warning them of the following: . 1. A guarantee of 95 percent of the 5 -year average price for any commodity will be an incentive to produce more for members of the . Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario. 2. Bill 131, An -Act respecting Farm Income Stabilization, if implemented. in any commodity, will ;in- crease production significantly and will require production controls or new marketing programs: 3. We support producer- planned production or marketing but this guarantee will force more government-. • planned production •or marketing to protect the public .financial contribution : and that the C.F.F. reject the bill for these reasons. Elbert van Donkersgoed, Executive Director of the C.F'F., in an interview from the C.F.F.'s office in Drayton said; ';Our initial reaction to. the new Bill was concern, but we were not prepared to reject it totally. Now we have- -,study the - details and have concluded that we must reject the whole . Bill." "The Bill has majorim- plications for government - planned production and marketing. This is just not acceptable to us," he said. The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario sup- po"rted the government's original bill that was defeated by the NDP and Liberals. earlier this year.
