Last year the .Dungannon Agricultural Society., through a combination. of • mismanagement and a shortage of funds and workers .did not sponsor•, the fair; i& Bob McNeil; president of the society and Wayne • Snyder, secretary -treasurer, applauded th.e support of the fair shown by members of the• community who entered the fair .• competition and who attended the day long event. They both agreed that an extremely hard, working core' of society members were responsible for the 're.vival. of the .fair and predict another. 117 years of success: The fair kicked.:off about noon with a paradke through • the village. A mare from Tindall Belgian Acres' in Luca.n won the best mare on line competition sponsoredby Mr. and Mrs. James Atchison • while Allan Horsburgh had the best, tandem team• of the -show followed by James Atchison •of Lucknow, Bev Little: of Shelburne, Ken Brown of Monkton, George • •Gregg 'of Paisley,' .Arnold Young. of. Goderich and' Tindall Belgian. Acres of Lucan. No fair is complete without horse races and . the, Dungannon.. Fair• was no - exception. Twosulky heats, highlighted activity on the track which included a'pony. race. Glen .Rtthes, owned and driven by Jack 'Pollard of ' Ripley won the first heat which was for cion winners of $500. The owner . received a halter for the win donated and _presented by HIO. Jerry Hardware. Noble Stein, owned -arid driveri by Paul Coulter of .Clinton received a, cooling' blanket donated by '. The Old• Mill in Blyth for winning. the 'second heat for horses that are non winners of $1,500. Margie O'.N•ei1 was presented the . Hoffineyer Trophy when she rode her Shetland Pony under the •wire •. firstjin the pony rapies. :Ian Hackett received the. Murray Gaurft trophy as the , champion beef showman of the day while Donna Hackett :was the reserve' champion ,beef showman. Sim „Nivens received th'e Robert McCallum trophyas the •charii.pitih' , dairy.. showman and reserve grand champion was won by Neil 'Sager. Neil Sager also won senior dairy .honors ahead of Jim Nivens. Sandra Nivens won the junidr dairy. honors ahead of Steve Sager. The' beef competition was widely supported by 4-H me.mbers and' Jim• and Sandra Nivens captured first and second place respectively in the senior steer com- petition..Doug Doherty was' first in the . senior heifer, ahead of Jamie Hackett. Gregg Hackett was, first in junior steer while Ian Hackett .took second spot. In the'junior heifer Brian Hackett was first for the. day ahead of 'Ken Metzger. In. the 50-50 draw Bob McNeil won .$.150, Cecil. Cranston $90 and Marg McMillan $60. Other trophy • winners in fair classes have nox .yet been determined' by ,,.the fair committee and results were not available.
