'grade budget-HCUt drastic aiIy
The Santa Claus Parade date has been
set for Saturday, D'ecemiter. 4 despite a,•
bleak financial picture. •
Due to budget cuts,•it was announced
that $1,000 had been set aside for the'
parade and other.related activities. Last
year's expenses included $600 for candy
and fruit at Santa's Court; $1050 for float
cash prizes; $1110 for band fees; and
...$460 for advertising that brought" the'
total budget to $3220.
This year the theme for the parade, is
Christmas' 'of the World. If the vents
are to continue on the same scale there is
a' .strong ' need for community in-
, voivement.
Due to the budget constraints and if
the necessary assistance.. cannot be -
found
efound. within the community, then floats
• will be awarded ribbons as prizes, .bands
will be limited, Santa's. Court may only
offer candy canes and considerably less
advertising will be done. These changes
will•. decrease the size of the paradeand
the scope of activities.
The parade co-ordination is ' done
through the recreation office and
recreation director Mike Dymond' has
petitioned groups and service clubs in
, town for support of the event. The
assistance 'may not neces'sarily, be
financial but, in the organization of the
court, providing of candy and apples -and
judging.'
