of June's discussion should
be. r •
"Is this council ready. to
-accept more re"sponsibility?"
asked the warden, who also
promised to be. "the devil's,

comment from everyone.
Reeve Derry Boyle 'of
Exeter said his .contwil felt
that by ihiplenrentingSection
27(a), it. would seriously limit
the numbers of people who
could aspire to county council
because of the extra work and
extra time which would be
demanded of each remaining
member. -
Deputy -reeve Frank Cook
of Clinton _said someone .
would have to prove to him
that costs would be cut across
the board. He claimed council
would not operate as ef-
ficiently with 29 members as
with 45,. '
Deputy -reeve Joe Miller of
Hay urged council to try
getting the work done fatter
now, to see if it could actually
be accomplished.
-Reeve John Flannery of
Seafosrth . said his council..
thought mayors froth the five
towns shouldt.sit on 'county
council instead rif the reeves. '
Goderich Reeve Stan Profit
saidthat when extra deputy -
reeves -were addedat the
beginning. of 1°975., council did
not become more efficient in
his view.
"Ifwe-are no more efficient
with more," reasoned Reeve
Profit, "fhen it just naturally
follows we .will be -no less
efficient with less members.
Reeve Simon °Hallahan of
East Wawandsh said. simply,
'For God's% sake, _leave us
alone.
Deputy -reeve Ralph
McNichol of McKillop felt it
'was a "real:good thing" for a -
deputy -reeve to have a few
years experience at county
council before stepping up.
"Large numbers –can be
June
time consuming," said Reeve
Fred Haberer of Zurich.,
"Today has proved it.
He did. - add tha't if
municipalities were
represented by only one
member in the future,
'provision should be made for
alternate representation in
the event that some reeve
became ill orwas otherwise
absent for a long period of
time. This happened a few -
years ago at Lambtof County
