EATING
FOR LIVING
Looking slim -and trim and feeling healthy as
well . as decreasing . the :"risk of 'heart attacks
are incentive enough 'for attaining and main-
taining peak physical' condition : and not get-
ting ,,soft",..
Improper diet" is a leading .factor -in the'.
development of overweight .and heart disease.
A major culprit is believed to be a substance
called cholesterol. It' is present in .certain
foods we eat as wee, as being manufactured'
by the body. Cholesterol buildup on the
inner walls of the arteries is associated with
circulatory. and heart diseases. Fat is an
essential nutrient` in your diet—but use the
right kind—unsaturated fat.
Here are a: few dietary guidelines:
Use more of '.these:
* Margarine and vegetable oils containing
polyunsaturated ingredients like corn oils,
soybean .oil, and cottonseed oil.
* Lean beef, veal, poultry and FISH.
*fat-free milk, skim milk, dairy products,
and low-fat cheeses.
Fat is the most .concentrated' source' of.
energy. It; carries vitamins A, D, E and K.
Some fat each day is necessary for a healthy.•
gall bladder,' healthy• skin and hair. Choose
salad dressing, a smallamount of butter
or mayonnaise, and egg yolk in your meals.
Avoid hydrogenated peanut butter; processed
cheese, French -fried .foods. Your diet must
have some fat—and unsaturated fat is the.
wisest choice. : -
