The • committee had just
completed a campaign

seniors who 'felt they would
need the housing.
,The list, however,was
deemed useless as a base for
government statistics and the
committee planned to go back
to the 118 with .the more in-
vol„yed government forms
that included income -figures,
• assets and any pension- or
insurance funds the people

rnittee.. was concerned that
the involved forms wouldnot

and that the number of

for housing would decline.
The members reported at

assd:rted. "That's ' been.
proven.',
John Lyndon told the
committee .that he was not
concerned only with the
financial needs of the elderly
but also with their need of a
central housing facility. He
said as a member of the.
Goderich Housing Authority
.he w,as_concerned with people
making $10,000 or less a year
that needed subsidized
ho.tsing tut as a'member of
the housing action committee
he was concerned about
seniors who could well afford
to pay full rent. for th:e,housing
unfits but needed the physical ,.
benefits of centralized„,senior',.
citizen housing. "
"There. just isn't any rental
acc.omnigdation in Goderich
for these people," said Mr.
Lyndon. '
Mr..' Breckenridge .told the
committee he was- not : sure
they • :should be'. sollciting
support for .subsidized
housing:in Goderich. He said,
the committee might be out of ;.
line' asking for blanket sups
',port of the housing units and, :`
maybe .should be just con-
cerning themselves 'with..:
people who are in real need of
the subsidized housing.
'Reeve Gerry Ginn of.
Goderich Township pointed
out that the future was what
the committee.. should . be
planning for. He said that
people who are not in any
for:seeable , need of .the
housing now may be. a victim
of circumstance in the future •
and may.have`'a need ...for
subsidized housing.
"They don't know they will
never. use it,'*'said the reeve. .•
John Lyndon said • he had,
encountered people who say
they don't see any -personal
need. for subsidized'housing
or'senior'citizen units and are •
hesitant to fill out the'
government forms. Mr.
Lyndon said he has explained
to .the'people.that by applying
they are. becoming 'govern-
ment statistics in Goderich; -
and if they never see , the
facility_.they are helping other
'seniors in town who.will use
it.
The. committee members.
organized their .efforts and
have prepared a list of the
people who expressed a need.
• for:housing here. They intend
to go over the list together to
ensure that•all the -people are
'polled about filling' out the•
governn_ent__forms in an
effort to get as many people
as possible to. apply for the
housing. ' • _ ,
