According to divine. law
'murderers are to be''removed.
fromsociety and put to. death:-
. We- see . this same principle.
practiced bymedical science.
Surgical, .amputation is an
undesirable thing, but very
necessary ii` the patient is to
'survive. Onediseased limb

It is , anact of wisdom to
amputate. So these members
of :society who are •.a' threat
F : must . be eliminated for the
safety of our citizens, We all
know that killers seldom' quit
killing..They sleep with their
weapons within easy reach
and if confronted. by their
police or opposition will knife
or shoot.
i, • Can it be • true that our
members of parliament. will
' again dare ' to .ignore , this
• divine . law by voting for
abolition of capital..punish-
ment for deliberate murder?
The reduced sentences for
criminals is making Canada a
criminal's paradi•se.
• Naturally crime' will increase
in such a state. Itis no longer.
' . safe for a woman to go out at
'night without an escort. Older
women hardly. dare carry a
handbag -even in daylight in
„our large' and seine'
cities.
If abolition of the ' death
penalty is to be retainedand.
.murderers'' are given life
sentences and let out on -
parole after a few years the
threat . to the quiet, honest',.

street. -Also • our - peneten-
t tiaries Will be -overcrowded,
the number ofescapes will
multiply,and fatalities
among Wardens, police, and
i ordinary` citizens :will -.con-
tinue to increase. The hold-up
man knows that if he kills he
will net be hanged (or another
means;t'_used) for it, Life
imprisonment .no longer
means life. A fifteen -year old
sentence -never means, fifteen
years, This means that those
who live by' crime•.tvil•1• con-
tinue to migrate to oux,land
because it is a safes= place to

Who qualifies :to vote • .on

corninuted death"sentence?
I think it is highlyunfair
members of parliament z to
have to'. bear the respon-
sibility iii' .the 'matter, of
-•.capita•] punishment or to
commute' a death sentence. I
would . suspect that most ,pf -
our members of parliament

position!When such a vote is

is their specialty. This is what
they have been `trained for

well 'equipped to deal with
such delicate and serious'
matters.. W hy.. in. the name_of
common sense:are untrained
mernbe'rs •of parliament
compelled. to decide• the
question of capital punish-
ment? To me this is .like
asking a.mah who has never
carefully studied the rules to
referee a NHL hockey game.
It would be most unfair -to the
players, an imposition on the
