Martha heads off to Florida
Last week on Wednesday afternoon, we
were headed for Windsor through snow,
slush and heavy blowing from the lake.
Once out of Bayfield, it was snowy edges
and later, after our stop for a hamburger at
Port Franks, the roads were clean and dry
We always stop at MacPhersons Eatery
before crossing the country.
Since the trees are bare, you could see the
unbelievable height of the earth, rocks and
sand that had been shoved out of the Lake by
some mighty giant millions of years ago. It
is actually mind boggling when you really
look at it. Over the years, it. has lost some of
the height from the top falling behind the
slope and soon there will be lots of homes
along there since they have already started.
We made good time, very littel traffic
across country and once on the 401 I stayed
behind a big truck and sailed into Windsor.
Granddaughter Sharon and hubby Tom had
just in the last few weeks, sold theri house,
bought another and were moved in within a
couple of weeks. A lot of work needed but its
a big, roomy ouse that they will make into a
palace. I could hardly believe the stories of
what they had done before getting into the
place. Even their new neighbours helped
when they saw what was happening. So,
they are looking forward to spring when
they can carry out their plans. They are
both workers.
I'd had good directions about the new ad-
dress but somehow I hadn't visualized the
distance. I finally reached them by phone –
you wouldn't believe the trouble 1 had while
Walt sat outside in the car with the heat
turned up. Someday, I may tell you the
story but not now. Sharon came and we
followed her home. I was.pooped! I'd taken
my paintings from the mall, some are now
at Budney Famine Shop. Besides packing,
changing tires and many other exciting
things that hold you up, I was forgotten at
the Donut Shop. Two hours or more waiting
for tires to be changed, no wonder I was fit
to be tied. Such worries atke more out of
you than hard work – but I'm still around.
When the tires were changed the car was
just parked and no-one had noticed I hadn't
picked it up or paid for it. Busy, busy
Later on Sharon and I went to a super
duper sho for groceries. The staff had
rollerskates – I wished I had them too. That
was the store where the checkout divided in -

to two and you packed your own groceries.
The carts were together outside the door,
you paid 25 cents for it and when you were
finished and returned the cart, you got your
money back. One thing was wrong, there
was such a lot of each type of goods on hand
you walked miles in the shop. You needed
skates too. The only thing that kept people
going was near the end of the shopping, girls
here and there had tidbits for you to taste
and they really were a great pick-me-up.
The eating place in the shop was at the other
end so huge you were soon tired out even if
you were young and verile – whatever that
is – I don't remember. But, I thought the
rollerskates a great idea. Monday, before
you get the Signal, we will be on the aircraft
and heading for a warmer clime.
Someone has been talking about tax
deductions and also people not staying mar-
ried. Sharon piped up "after 10 years we
should get a tax deduction if still married to
the same man!" Great idea, I wonder if it
would help. The big problem now is that
young people jump into living together,
married or not, before they know what liv-
ing together means or what sharing and car-
ing means. This all has to start at home
before you are two years old. Children have
to know love and sharing when they are tiny
– after that they have a heck of a lot of other
things to learn about. I don't know why
some people think school teachers have to
do it. Home is one thing but school is
another phase in life and it is plain to see
that more teaching should be done at home.
Don't think I'm old fashioned – I wish more
of you were. Actually, the old way of having
respect for the oldaters, who should be help-
ing the little ones understand what respect
for each other was, is and what it is all
about. Think about it, youngsters.
Everyone will be happier. I love you
anyway.
Love, Martha
