Aquatic Centre should be practical
Dear Editor:
Have I missed something???
$3.4 million Aquatic Center or nothing !
Well - I know if I lived my life for all or
nothing I would have more nothing than
anything. The word practical, "Prat -ti-
cal" seems to have eluded this entire
issue.
$3.4 million is not practical. For example
how can you teach children to swim in a
wading pool? Would this facility never be
used for this purpose? Ah - maybe I have
missed something. To me the suggestion of
a wading pool would make this Centre
more like a private club. Do private clubs
welcome our youth? I think not. We don't
need luxury, we need practical - everyone
or no one.
What would be wrong with practical
Aquatic Center with a practical pool.
Never mind the frills. You must bake the
cake and let it cool before you put the icing
on it.
Possibly build it in stages over a few
years, as money comes available.
Surely there is some reasonable way to
give Goderich a beautiful facility without
compounding an already high tax base.
I feel the majority of Goderich tax
payers would much sooner support an
Aquatic Center with a mortgage - free

foundation to start with than a $3.4 million
center that would drain our tax dollars and
possibly never be able to support itself.
If we keep the dream of an Aquatic
Center practical it could become a reality,
but I feel $3.4 million right off the bat may
give us all nightmares.

Chaos is created by strikes
Dear Sir/Madam,
Tens of thousands of passengers have
seen their business and holiday plans
thrown into chaos because of the strike by
Air Canada, a Crown corporation.
Those who defend Crown corporations
argue that some services are so essential
that they must be guaranteed through
government ownership and control. They
also argue that because some services
can't be provided at a profit, they must be
provided by government.
The emptiness of both these arguments
has been shown clearly by the Air Canada
strike and the two strikes this year of the
post office's letter carriers and inside
workers.

are the highest paid in the industry in
Canada, no doubt believe that the purse is

walk out.
The management and a large part of the
work force of Air Canada want the airline
privatized. However, Prime Minister
Mulroney personally vetoed its privatiza-
tion this fall.
We believe it's time he reconsidered and
put Air Canada where it belongs - in the
free enterprise sector.
