rookside holds 'Teddy Bear Day'
BY TERESA JEFFERSON,
RHONDA DICKSON AND JOEL WRIGHT
Mrs. Bakkers' Kindergarten 2 class
recently had a Teddy Bear Day. They met
many well loved teddies. Their fall
booklets are all Completed and look really
great. They are now busy practising for
their Christmas concert.
Miss' Mathers' Grade is have enjoyed
learning about 3D shapes through the use
of household junk. We are getting caught
up in the excitement of Christmas and
have started our Christmas activities.
Miss Jewitt's Grade 1 class has been stu-
dying shelters of animals and people.
They've been discovering the need to have
shelters to protect animals and people
from dangerous elements. The children
have been busy writing letters to Santa,
practising for the concert, playing
Christmas games and singing Christmas
songs. We wish everyone a Happy
Holiday.
Mrs. Blanchette's room is completing a
study of Canadian Geese. The children
read stories and saw films about animals
getting ready for winter. They have com-
pleted pop-up books, diagrams, and
murals about this topic.
This week the Dinosaur Den Treehouse
went on a trip to the Lambton Museum and
learned about hos pioneers lived 130 years
ago and found it very interesting. We got
to have a wagon ride and it was fun. We
are still trying to find clues to turn the frog
into a princess. Now we're adding a red
and yellow marble to the potion. Debilyn
Greene is moving away. We'll miss her.
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, Mrs. Ottewell's
Grade 3 class went to the Lambton
BROOKSIDE
BROADCAST
Museum with Mrs. Clarke's class. We
watched a slide show and then we went to
the woodworker and saw some wooden
toys and some of us went on a tractor ride.
Then we went to a pioneer house and they
gave us wassail. Later we made some but-
terflies and a cat stairs chain. We went
outside to the chapel and we sang carols
and a lady played the pump organ. We had
a big day. We're also busy doing
Christmas activities and practising for the
Chrismtas concert.
Mrs. Scott's Grade 4 class held Pay Day
on Nov. 30. Thanks to Mrs. Culbert and
Mrs. Brindley for being our tellers. All the
class helped make a mural of the Kwakiutl
Indians. On Nov. 27, Mrs. Graham came
to our class and we made some masks us-
ing paper mache. On Dec. 1, Mr. Bieman
from the Board Office came to Room 9
with a TV camera and we saw each other
on TV. We are working at producing a
video of our Indian studies. Thank you Mr.
Biema . or getting us started.
Mr. Oilp's Grade 4 class asks, "Have
you ever wondered what recycling is all
about?" It's when you can use something
more than once. Our class is bringing pop -
cans that can be recyled. You can also
recycle paper. Mr. Culp is keeping a box
of paper to recycle. We are hoping that
other classes will join us in recycling cans
and paper. We are hoping that we can get
enough boxes for every class and collect
the cans once a week. If we don't recycle
now, we won't have enough aluminum or
trees for paper when we grow up.
Mrs. Webster's Grade 5 class has been
busy. We made all kinds of pinatas – peo-
ple, bumble bees, giraffes, popples and
pigs. They have candy inside and we can
hardly wait to burst them. Our class
helped our grade 1 buddies make bred
dough Christmas bears. Thanks to Mrs.
Bakker for coming in to help. We also
wrote letters to Santa for our littel friends.
Do they ever want a lot of things! - Every-
day we practise for our part in the
Christmas Concert. We really hope you
enjoy it. We have been reading mystery
novels and doing super sleuth activities.
We have several good mystery writers in
our class. We are proud of Michelle Mc-
Clinchey who win first prize for her story
in the Legion Contest and Philip Dickson
who won second prize for his poster.
On Dec. 4, Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6 class
started to do Christmaseentres. There are
crossword puzzles, language activities,
math activities, writing activities and
research activities about Christmas.
Everyone is looking forward to doing all
these Christmas activities just as we're all
looking forward to Christmas.
On Sat. Nov, 28, the senior girls and boys
went to. Goderich to compete in a
volleyball tournament. Both teams played
well. A lot of genes were very exciting
with close scores in the third game. Con-
gratulations to all team members.

MRS. BROWN'S GRADE 1
Mrs. Brown's Grade 1 class was happy to
have all their bear friends in class on Thurs-
day, Dec. 3. They had a bear parade
throughout the school so the bears could
meet their Grade 7 partners and sone of the
other younger children. They have been stu-
dying bears at their centres, made puppets,
laced -up bears and beary nice fold -out bear
books. It was fun to learn about such funny
creatures.
MRS. LIVERMORE's 1-2
On Thursday, Dec. 1, Miss Doreen Cardiff
from the Ministry of Natural Resources,
came to visit the class to talk about
Woodland Animals. The class has been stu-
dying animals all the month of November.
Mrs. Cardiff brought the fur kit to show the
children. She had skins of a black bear,
wolf, fox, skunk, raccoon and several
others. Everyone enjoyed seeing and feel-
ing the fur. Miss Braid's class joined with
Mrs. Livermore's class for this event.
MR. CURRIE'S GRADE 5
The Grade 5's have been busy learning

how to use a computer to do word process-
ing. Most of the class has been able to write,
proofread and print a story after only a
short period of instruction. Mr. Currie was
pleased with the quality of the projects from
the class visit to the Wawanosh Conserva-
tion Authority. The p .ipils did learn many
things as a result of their visit and subse-
quent research.
MR. SCRATCH'S GRADE 6
Grade 6 has been taking VIP (Values, In-
fluences and Peers). Recently, they have
been discussing the danger of drugs. In the
past, they have been discussing peer
pressure, being truthful and decision mak-
Victoria holds special assembly
A special assembly was held Tuesday
afternoon, Dec. 8 for Mr. Cameron, our
music teacher. (The Grade ones sang some
of their favorite songs.)
Many of the classes took part in the pro-
gramme. Songs were composed for him and
poems were written in his honor. A flute
choir from GDCI and Mrs. Scratch's class
from Robertson also performed. Mr.
Cameron and his wife enjoyed the favorite
songs sung by the pupils.
After the assembly, a tea and informal
reception were held in the Library Resource

ing. They are really enjoying Constable
Poulter coming in every VIP period.
MISS BROADWELL, GRADE 7
Leadership qualities are evident in the
students in 7C. Eddy Rotteau showed the
class how to make furry, round creatures
which he referred to as furfuls. At-
tachments were added, such as feet, ear-
muffs, eyes, noses, tuques and sometimes
antlers, if they were reindeer. Some of our
furfuls will be made of a part of our
classroom door decoration for the Student
Council sponsored contest.
MR. BOGIE'S GRADE 8
Mr. Bogie's class has' been busy spec-
tating the new baby gerbils and fish eggs
from the goldfish in the class aquarium.
Room 103 is abounding with new life.
SPECIAL VISITOR
Mr. Claus Breede, curator of the Huron
County Pioneer Musuem, came on Monday,
Nov. 23 to talk to all the grade seven
students about archaelogy. He graciously
showed slides of digs he had worked on in
Fort York, Toronto and in the Middle East.
The students appreciated the information he
brought which was pertinent for their study
on archaelogy.
