Rev. Aubrey Bell officiating. The Combined Choir of Bayfield Trinity and Middleton led in the ministry of music with Ron Greidanus at the organ. Following the choir into church were Bishop Townshend, and Aubrey Bell. Mr. Dic Boulay carrying the staff and John Van der Haar carried the cross. Bishop Townshend asked for the Advent Candle to be lit and Angie Van Haar lit the first candle of Advent. At this time the Bishop blessed the cliche. The table made by Ray Wise and Edward Deeves, with the Nativity scene placed on it, was given by Edward and Blanche Deeves in memory of their families. The choir sang with Ron Greidanus at the organ and Lisa Storey playing the flute. The congregation welcomed the can- didates as members of the church. They are Jennifer Scott, confirmed. and Karen Lyons from the church of Rome. Following the service everyone gathered in the church hall for a lunch served by the ladies of the church. Mabel Middleton, Margaret .Middleton, Edward and Lois Wise and Edward and Blanche Deeves joined Rev. and Hilda Bell at the Rectory for cherry and Christmas cake . with Bishop; ,Bob Townshend for, a social time. FAR 524-2421 H 0 LM ESVI LLE NEWS Blanche Deeves, 482-9536 St. James' wishes to thank Bishop Bob Townshend for bringing his fathers good wishes to the congregation of Middleton and would love to have been with us. Everything went quiet when the lights went out and curtains drawn. On came Mickey's Christmas Carol which drew laughs and quietness. A break was held and everyone enjoyed a crunchy apple. Lights were out again and Ziggy's Gifts was shown. Teachers had great hot dogs and veggies and dip, and of course goodies and apple cider. The Sunday School wishes to thank Pete's TV for the.use of a TV and to Don Middleton for the delicious cider. Next Sunday is White Gift Sunday. President Stella Reaburn chaired the meeting and welcomed all. The pianist was Helen Stoll. The Roll Call, "A household hint", was well answered by many unusual and helpful hints. Secretary -treasurer Marie Buchanan read the minutes of the October meeting, the correspondenc, and the treasurer report. Being the month when the Branch donates to Family and Children's Services Christmas Brueau, the members brought many knitted articles and made monetary donations, Donations were also made to Town and Country Homemakers and Huron Day Cen- tre for the Homebound. The request for funds from Survival through Friendship House of Huron County, was held over for the 1988 Budget. Marguerite Horton, convener of the meeting, gave the motto "Try a taste of Canada". It was a very enlightening motto dealing with Food and the grading of Food. Dorothy Feagan, program coordinator, introduced the guest speaker Teresa Feagan who spoke on the proposed Aquatic Centre project for Goderich and, areas. Teresa served on the committee that was formed in 1986, and for nine months they in- terviewed all groups, from pre schooler's parents, seniors, and handicapped. The response was very favorable. The cost of the project seems to be the drawback at the present time. Teresa said the reason she got involved in the proposed project was first she wants to keep fit and also for her own children. She believes that all children should have an alternative from hockey, and baseball, although she agrees that those are good sports, they are not for all children and young adults. As an R.N.Teresa outlined the different uses for a swimming pool. We are responsi- ble for our own health she said, and if we just sit and do nothing no one else will. The speaker urged everyone to fill in the Poll Ballot in last week's Signal Star and give an opinion. Marguerite Horton thanked Teresa for her splendid talk and presented her with a gift. Marguerite also represented our W.I. at the Town and Country Public meeting, held in MacKay Centre on Nov. 23. The meeting, was to determine what home sup- port services are presently -available for seniors and adult handicapped in Goderich, and surroundingarea, and how these ser- vices can be ,im roved and how different , P organizations can supply ideas and input in- to the services. Fifty organizations were represented and more information will be put forward in your local paper. Helen Stoll reported on the area Conven- tion held in St. Marys Community Centre in October to which she acted as Delegate. "Sharing and Caring" was the theme of the Convention and all Resolutions brought for- ward were sustained. Agriculture Awareness was also a subject on the agen- da. Our thanks to Helen for a very good report. A social hour followed the meeting. 46 Nelson St. West Close To Champion STATELY 2 STOREY red brick with walk- up attic and walk -out balcony.
