Do the residents of Goderich and the surrounding area really want a
municipally -run aquatic recreation complex here in town? Would they support
such a venture financially, through contributions and tax dollars?
That's what the Goderich Signal -Star has decided to find out. Here's your
chance to voice your opinion on the question.
The project, which has been studied intensively over the past couple of years,
is currently in limbo. Should it be revived?
The facts have been presented in previous issues of the Signal -Star. To build a
complex, it's going to cost more than $3 million. Only about $700,000 is available
through governanent grants. The remainder would have to be raised through
municipal contributions (tax dollars) and through community fundraising. Can
we do it?
To register your opinion, simply check the appropriate box below and send
your ballot to the Signal -Star, P.O Box 220, Huckins Street, Industrial Park,
Goderich Ont., N7A 4136. Ballots can also be dropped off at the Goderich Signal -
Star or any of the following locations: Riecks Pharmacy, The Square; Athletes
Foot, Suncoast Mall; or Donuts and More, Huron Road.
A drop off box is also in place at Zehrs on Huron Road.
Ballots must be received by noon, Monday, Dec. 7 to be eligible. Only this
ballot form (no photo copies), or handwritten replies will be counted.
Results will be published in the Signal -Star on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
[1] YES I believe Goderich needs a municipal aquatic
recreation centre and I would be willing to support such a facili-
ty through tax dollars.
[11 NO ® I do not believe Goderich needs a municipal aquatic
recreation centre and I would not be willing to support such a
facility through tax dollars.

What does it take to be ready
REV. CLARE GEDDES
BLUEWATER CENTRE
As the joyous days of Advent begin we
hear the words, "Are you ready for
Christmas?"
Preparations for the happiest season of
the year become increasingly demanding
and elaborate. A workman, hanging a candy
cane from a city light pole, hits his finger
and utters an oath. He is getting ready for
Christmas. Dozens of street -corner Santas
take their red coats out of moth balls for
another season. Streets are crowded with
shoppers trying desperately to find the kind
of presents that will match their rapidly
dwindling Christmas savings, and still
make respectable gifts. They too are getting
ready for Christmas.
In every household the annual chore of ad-
dressing the growing mountain of greeting
cards reminds us this is also a part of get-
ting ready for Christmas. Indecisively we
face the inevitable dilemma : "Since they
didn't send us a card last year, shall we send
one to them this year?"
Then comes the quiet magic of Christmas
MINISTER'S STUDY
Eve. The turmoil, at least for the moment, is
ended. The tree is trimmed, the last card
sent, the last package wrapped. The whole
family settles back relaxed — ready for
Christmas.
I wonder. What does it take to be truly
ready for Christmas? Is Christmas to be
found in reindeer and Santa Claus? Is it a
festival of lighted trees and candled win-
dows? Is Christmas merely the, joy of giving
and receiving gifts — the spirit of
friendliness and good will?
No, Christmas is not just a spirit at all. It
marks an event in time when God invaded
the world with the birth of a babe. For
"when the time has ome, God sent
forth his Son..." ( alatians 4:
For the Christia the nativit can never

Huron Country Playhouse may hold
six-week children's workshop in 1988
Huron Country Playhouse is considering
a six week Children's Theatre Workshop
for July and August of 1988.
The Workshop would be for young people
aged six to 15 and would be designed to
enrich children in the arts as well as give
them some added summer fun in a struc-
tured learning context.
There would be two groups; one for ages
six to nine; the other for ages ten to 15. The
Workshop would run one week for each
child from Monday to Friday from approx-
imately 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Each week-long workshop would involve
25 to 30 young people and activities would
include creative movement, improvisa-
tion, playmaking, clown and mime as well

as singing. Instructors teaching the
workshop would be three professionals and
five post -secondary Theatre Arts students
and would have expertise in each activity
area.
The Instructors would encourage the
young people to take an active part in the
activities, rather than be passive
bystanders.
The cost for this unique Children's
Theatre Workshop would be $100 and the
Playhouse will pursue plans for this pro-
ject only if there is a favourable response
from the general public. '

project, please contact Vicki Mann at the
Playhouse at 238-8387.

drama of ancient folklore. This is the
celebration of the way God has come into
the world for all tines and to all peoples. In
a decisive act God entered the world as a
man. "And the Word became flesh and
dwelt among us..." (John 1:14) .
God took centuries to get ready for
Christmas. Yet how few were ready for hire
the night Jesus was born!
Only a few simple shepherds and three
wise men from afar came to adore the babe
in the manger. "He came unto his own and
his own received him not" (John 1:11). No,
the world was not ready for Christmas that
very first Christmas.
Nineteen centuries of Christmases have
come and gone since that time. Are we any
more ready to celebrate the birth of God's
Son this Christmas 1987? We welcome, in-
deed, the yuletide season with its glitter and
glow. We are ready for Santa and sleigh
bells, bright lights and gifts. We may even
be ready for carols and pageantry and a
child in a manger.
But are we ready for the Son of God — the
Lord of life?
