Rel
t
ation and stress workshop
be held in Goderich Novo 14
No matter what type of temperment a
person has, no matter what line of work
they are in, it is inevitable they will even-
tually feel the effecs of stress from one
source or another.
Fortunately, says relaxation expert Rita
Loftsgard, the effects of stress need not be
disasterous — they can be controlled.
Loftsgard, a practising massage
therapist, who has worked for the National
Department of Health and Welfare, among
other projects, is planning to conduct
workshops on Deep Relaxation and,Stress
Release Management, in Goderich.
"There really isn't anyone who doesn't
suffer from the negative effects of stress,"
Loftsgard asserts.
She said the workshop will be a combina-
tion of theoretical and practical excercises
designed to help people handle tension and
stress.
Thos participating, "could expect to
have a greater ability to handle things
under pressure," and will "learn techni-
ques that enable them to re -focus the mind
and relax certain portions of the body,"
she said.
"It will give them certaub tools they can
take into the world and use on a daily
basis," such as breathing and massage
techniques, she added.
The workshop program is drawn from a
number of other things Loftsgard has
studied, she said, including: Yoga,
psychology, dream interpretation and
massage.
According to Loftsgard, everyone needs
to relax at times and some may not be
maximizing the experience.
"It's important for people to recognize
the difference between recreation and
deep relazation," she said. "It ( deep relax-
ation) is finding a stillness, as opposed to
an activity".
The workshop will be hemi on Saturday,
Nov. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the
Victoria Public School Gymnasium. The
cost is $35 and interested particpants are
asked to pre -register at the Goderich
Recreation Office by Nov. 6.
Heritage Fair emphasizes old time skills
In tradition with past years, the Walker-
ton Heritage Fair will again be emphasizing
the old time skills.
Now in its ninth season, the show Will
feature craftwork which takes much time,
skill and patience to create; work such as
cross stitch samplers, detailed painting on
Christmas glass ornaments, homespun
creations, and lots of quilts and quilted ar-
ticles. One entire wall is being devoted to an
array of quilts in traditional, much loved
patterns such as.the "Log Cabin" and star
patterns, all offered for sale. There is really
quite an art to putting together hundreds of
tiny coloured fabric pieces to produce a col-
our harmony of exciting design. Some
quilters lack the confidence to tackle this
challenge, or do not have the time. For this
person there will be a variety of pieced quilt
tops available from which to choose, to be
quilted. Some will be in the favourite tradi-
tional star patterns and will be offered com-
plete with lining and. binding. These quilt
tops have been pieced and made up by local
experienced stitchers.
Shepherdess Elaine Gray will be back
with her homespun articles, also sheep dolls
and hobby lambs for little folk to ride on.
The Heritage Fair will have 30 booths of
crafts with many one -of -a -kind pieces.
It's prime time at the
'ARK HOUSE, and we are celebrating
by offering you GREAT FOOD at SPECIAL
PRICES and FANTASTIC PROMOTIONAL NIGHTS!
