Legion acts
The Royal Canadian Legion, as we know
it today, was formed on November 27, 1925
in Winnipeg after much deliberation. As is
.the case now, unity was the theme and,the
first meeting was called "The Unity Con-
ference". The first President was Sir Per-
cy Lake of Victoria B.C.
The Chain of Command of the Royal
Canadian Legion is: Dominion Comrnand,
Provincial Command, District Com-
mands, Zones, Branches. -
z Branch 109 is in Ontario Provincial Com-
mand which is broken into 9 District Com-
mands and we belong to District C.
District C is broken down into 4 Zones (C-1,
C-2, C-3, C-4) and Branch 109 is in Zone C-1.
There -are 53 Branches in District C and 12
• Branches in Zone C-1 (Goderich, Clinton,
Sqaforth, Exeter, Kincardine, Brussels,
Howick, Lucknow, Blyth, Ripley and
Hensall).
Each Zone holds two Conventions yearly
(one in the Spring and one in the Fall) as
does each District. The places of these
Conventions is determined by a vote at the
previous convention. The Provincial Con-
ventions are held every two years with the
Dominion Convention being held in alter-
nate years.
There are some 1800 Branches in Canada
and- the U.S. boasting a membership of
over one half million. So, you can see that
the Royal Canadian Legion is one of the
largest international Service Organiza-
tions in the world.
For information, Branch 109 has four
members who are Officers or Chairmen in
Zone C-1 as well as one member who is a
Chairman at District level.
As of Sept. 30, 1987 Branch 109 has a
membership as follows: Ordinary
(veterans) 398, Associate (sons, daughters
and widows) 374, Life 23, Honorary 17,
Fraternal 223, Total 1035.
