As is .the case now, unity was the theme and,the first meeting was called "The Unity Con- ference". The first President was Sir Per- cy Lake of Victoria B.C. The Chain of Command of the Royal Canadian Legion is: Dominion Comrnand, Provincial Command, District Com- mands, Zones, Branches. - z Branch 109 is in Ontario Provincial Com- mand which is broken into 9 District Com- mands and we belong to District C. District C is broken down into 4 Zones (C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4) and Branch 109 is in Zone C-1. There -are 53 Branches in District C and 12 • Branches in Zone C-1 (Goderich, Clinton, Sqaforth, Exeter, Kincardine, Brussels, Howick, Lucknow, Blyth, Ripley and Hensall). Each Zone holds two Conventions yearly (one in the Spring and one in the Fall) as does each District. The places of these Conventions is determined by a vote at the previous convention. The Provincial Con- ventions are held every two years with the Dominion Convention being held in alter- nate years. There are some 1800 Branches in Canada and- the U.S. boasting a membership of over one half million. So, you can see that the Royal Canadian Legion is one of the largest international Service Organiza- tions in the world.
