The Sailors came back to tie the game at home on Friday, 3-3. They open their regular season at home this Friday at 8:30. (photo by Ted Spooner) Forest tie....v.sMount.aors earn_ was probably the best forward on the ice for the Sailors, but he will be lost to the team for several games as a resultof a match penalty he received for high stick- ing after he was speared by the Patriots Hoy .Nielson. Frank Goetz, Scott Weber and Brent Moore were the Mount Forest goal -getters. The Patriots hustled throughout the game and gave the Sailors all they could handle. If Friday's game is a repeat of last week's local fans should see a good game. Goderich goaltender Jeff Roy, who comes to the Sailors from Clinton, played well for the Sailors. Along with Phibbs, he should give Goderich strong goaltending this season. The Goderich Sailors go into their J.H.A. In Thedford, the Sailors netminder Shawn Phibbs was within 55 seconds of a shutout but Steve Wilson's power play goal took nothing away from the outstanding performance in goal by Phibbs. Jefferson Peewee Lions open with win and tie The Goderich Lions Peewee's opened the 1987/88 hockey season last weekend with a 2-1 win in Lucan Friday and a 3-3 tie at home Saturday against St. Marys. Tracting 1-0 after the first period the Lions got on the score board ,as Paul Wheeler corrected on a goal mouth scram- ble with Chad Papple assisting mid -way through the second period. The winner came from Todd Papple on a breakaway at 5:39 of the third with Chad Papple and Jason Hayter assisting. Against St. Marys Saturday, the game turned out to be a very fast paced Contest with lots of up and down action. The Lions held a 3-1 lead with only minutes remain- ing, but being unaccustomed to, back to back controls this early in the year, they MINOR HOCKEY tired fast in the third! Goderich trailed 1-0 in the first until Jason Jeffrey's well plac- ed shot in the corner tied the game as An- drew McLarty assisted.
