Port Albert 4H club holds meeting BY JEFF WEAVER The 4-H group of Port Albert had its first meeting on the 15th of September at Linda Haydens. There were two boys and five girls present for the Ontario Fruits and Vegetables Club. We had our election of officers and our meeting and afterwards we had a snack of vegetables and dip. The next meeting will be at Jeff Weaver's on September 23 at 7 p.m. 'All about dinosaurs' is topic of study for Grade 2 students BY TAMMY FISHER and HEATHER MACKECHNIE Welcorne back, students from Robertson and a special welcome to all new students from Victoria and other schools. GRADE 7A We have three sup.er grade 7 classes this year. September will be spent getting to know each other and routines at RMPS. Grade 7's are on a semi -rotary system so most, of the morning' is spent with a homeroom teacher. Grade 7 homeroom "leathers are: 7A -Mrs. Dyck, 7B -Mr. Yeats, and 7C -Miss Broadwell. • We are always pleased -to answer inquiries and respond to difficulties so please feel free to contact us - as necessary. Let's work hard and play hard. Through good team spirit we can make RMPS a great place to be. GRADE 8A Mr. Mathies grade 8A class has begun the year in earnest and everyone is doing well. A number of pupils from 8A will be responsible for this column from now until the `end of January. when 7A takes over. Watch.. fro the RMPS supplement in the Signal -Star in U tober.T GRADE 2 Ms. Braid's• class' is learning all about dinosaurs and will be sharing their.booklets with their mystery reading partners in Mrs. Crocker's grade 8 class. Since fall is near, room' 6 has been chatting about signs of autumn. SELF-CONTAINED CLASS Mr. Stecca's class will „be learning to play chess as part of the language program: We will be writing a "How To" book on chess to help us learn'the garde. Mike Clarke has done some excellent- work on hisproject already. We also . hope to learn some orienteering stcills which will be used later on 'a field trip. LIBRARY What better way to get a student in- terested in :reading than to have a paper- back book sale in.the school. The Great Owl Book Fair begins Thursday, September 24 and lasts until ,".4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29. There will be evening hours of 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 24 and Mort - day Sept. 28. Profits from the fair will go toward the' purchase of new library books. Since. open house is the evening of September- 23, the book fair will officially open that night.. ROBERTSON ROUND -UP GRADE6. Mr. Scratch's class is off to a good start this year. The class is looking forward to a couple of subjects such as the VIP program, social studies and science. Also, they will be going to East Wawanosh for a tree' study. VICE-PRINCIPAL Over 100 students from grades 7 and 8 have joined the Robertson Senior Choir. Rehearsals have just begun and we look for- ward to a great, sound from this big group. Plans are being made now for the choir to perform at MacKay Hall later in the month of October, GRADE5 The grade 5 journals have contained a lot of interesting stories of adventure and travel this summer. Many of the pupils have brought pictures of their summer travel into the room to share with the rest of the -class, In our computer classes we have studied the advantages and disadvantages of a com- puter and also how to make and use a data base. GRADE 1 • The grade 1 class would like to say that they have been working very 'hard already this year. They can already read several poems and songs and love their activities. Robert Spittal enjoys playing soccer at recess. Niki Graff liker her teacher, Mrs. Brown.. Amanda Wheeler likes reading. Kyle Vandenburgh likes doing work. Ben Dykstra likes to play with the playdough. Melissa Kelly and Amanda Fowler like the water center and Robbie Corrigan likes to. go to gym with Mr. Mason. We are going to have a good year.. GRADE7 Intramural volleyball startedon 'Sept. 16 with 12 teams participating. Hopefully, all can improve skills.' A rumour has it that the overall winners would love to get a match against a. teacher "all-star" team. PRINCIPAL Enrolment is 390, which is an increase of about 20 students. Robertson's Open House , and Meet the Teacher Night will be Wednes- day, September 23 from 7:30-9 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Victoria welcomes vice-principal The staff and students at Victoria Public School wish to thank the custodial staff for the great job they did over the summer. They have -been working inside and out - the playground equipment is newly painted and everything inside is sparkling. Thank you Mr. MacDonald, Mr. Cox and Mrs. Swan. Victoria welcomes 26 new students to the school. We hope they will enjoy their stay with us. Mr. Wayne Nicholls is the, new vice- principal this year. He transferred to our school from Clinton Public School and.says Victoria is "terrific". Mr. Nicholls teaches a Grade 3 class as well as fulfilling the role of • vice-principal. Welcome, Mr. Nicholls! Total enrollment in Kindergarten this year is 63. Mrs. Wark has a morning and an afternoon class and Mrs. Egener has a mor- ning class. They are all very busy enjoying their many activities. Try to ignore teasing from brother, Colleen advises girl Dear Colleen, At recess some of my friends don't want to play with me.
