reached safety milestone
The Domtar-Sifto, Salt Mine located on
North Harbour Road recently recorded
100,000 man hours worked without logging
a single lost -time injury.
The mine presently employs 279 hourly
workers, members of the Energy and
Chemical Workers, Union (ECWU ). Local
16, as well as 42 staff members and it was
through the joint effort of everyone that
the achievement was possible.
For many years, safety has been a con-
tentious issue between union members and
the company. The mine is owned and,
operated by Domtar Chemicals Group
whose head office is in Etobicoke.
The Salt Institute, which is an industry
trade organization, will also recognize the
achievement with a forthcoming award.
Area family entertain recent
visitors from victoria, B.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry McKeller and family
have returned to Victoria, B.C., after spen-
ding a month with Mt s. McKeller's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McCrostie and her
brother Dale and family of RR 4 Kincardine.
While here they attended a family gather-
ing and dinner at the Hartley House,
Walkerton; in honor of her parents 40th wed-
ding anniversary.
Guests with Mrs. Lou Fulford recently
were her daughter, Mrs. Pauline Smith of
London and friend Patty Hannan. Her
daughter and husband and sister Jean
Chisholm from London were guests also.
Mrs. Donald Mallory of Vulcan, Alberta
visted her cousin Mrs. Dorothy Fowler
recently. Mrs. Dorothy Fowler attended a
family gathering in St. Thomas on Sunday.
Sincere sympathy to the family of the late
Mrs, (Gervin) Irene Young, formerly of Col-
borne Township, who passed away Satur-
day, August 29. -

August meeting was a special for the
members who met at the Blyth Hotel at 12
noon and enjoyed a tasty appetizing dinner
and then to the hall where thye were able to
have a short meeting before they attended

repeated the Mary Stewart Collect. Mrs. R.
Buchanan, secretary -treasurer, informed
members of the invitation to Wingham
Women's Institute 85th Anniversary on
September 24 and the Women's Institute
Huron County Rally in Londesboro Oct. 5.
A presentation was made to Mrs. G. Kait-
ting of a special remembrance gift for serv-
ing as secretary -treasurer for two terms, to
which she, expressed sincere thanks.
The next meeting will be Thursday, Sept.
24 at 1:45 p.m. at Colborne Township Hall,
Carlow.
