Hi,
My name is Sarah Montgomery and I
will be 1 -year-old on August 13. I live with
my mommy and daddy, Mark and Lynda
and Huron Haven trailer park. I'd also like
to wish my friend Debbie Ruetz a happy
birthday on August 18.
, Bye for now,
Love Sarah
Hi,
My name is Adam McGuire and I will be
four years old on August 13. I play T -ball and
my brother J.D. plays softball. I will be hav-
ing my party at McDonald's on Saturday (if
1 don't get the chicken pox first! ). See you
next year.
Love, Adam
Be careful what you say
to small children, Martha
I was reminded of an incident I can't
forget. One that could happen again and
again because some people don't realize
what they are saying to a very young
person.
, : This little guy was told over and over
. that he would have a brother or a sister to
play with - soon, his very own and this hap-
pened every day until the baby was born.
When they came home from the hospital,
there it was, his own little brother, his
playmate - he was told this for months but
•he was expecting something, something to
PLAY WITH...
The parents had quite a time with him
because he 'kept taking the baby out of .the
basket and scaring everyone to pieces.
They talked to him, slapped his hands,
spanked him - but to no avail. This was
HIS, they had said s6 for months.
A young woman living in the apartment
above also' had a "new" baby. She lugged
the carriage down the stairs, then a chair,
then the baby and a book to read out in the
-sunshine. She had forgotten something and
ran back upstairs: By the time she started
down again, the little boy had spotted the
carriage and was getting. his revenge for
his spankings by punching this baby in the
face with a little stick.
He couldn't take his frustrations out on
the one in the' house, so he would use any
baby that was handy. Now, can't you just
see that little one doing that very thing? I
felt sorry for him but felt worse for the wee
one with the jabs and cuts in the face and
the mother who almost fell down the flight
of stairs.
1 had held my tongue when I heard a
mother -to -be talking to her very young
son, one who couldn't be expected to
understand what was right or wrong - and
his mother didn't realize what she was pro-
mising him, either. I just hope she gets the
message.
Speaking of 'kids, have you ever had
trouble with little kids who pick their nose
and
I haven't seen this happen in such a long
time, guess I thought it had gone out of
style - I couldn't help laughing. You'd think

that with all the children I had seen in the
last couple of months - my own GREATS
about 17 of them, that I would have
remembered that it was still numbered
with the habits. Since I am a people wat-
cher - along a great many other odd habits
- like bird, animal and sky watching - you
just know I would get a kick out of this.
I must confess that day or night, sky
watching in one's best bad habit - you can't
get into trouble.
On such a nice day I had to make sure
people were enjoying our new beach - the
one at the end of that rocky road - the
"Florida Beach" - what else could you call
it when you see those nice long waves
quietly rolling in and big and little people
just loving it. I asked one car -load how
they liked it - they hated to leave and all
started tallying at the same time.
"It's just great;,nice and sandy; you can
go so far out and the children are safe; we
like the way the rocks are piled - sort of
cuddling us in. "Safe" is the best word.
A big hairy fellow, piped up, "It's great
for me, too!"
They are still building up the shoreline.
and adding rocks and more rocks out
there. On reading an article about the
mess at Grand Bend where even the police
can't control it, I hope we won't have their
problems. Let's start thinking about it
before it does happen. Have some control
planned.
Wecan all be happy about our great'
beaches and especially our deep Harbour -
and don't start grumbling about higher
taxes - nothing is free nowadays.
Take care, check on your friends.
Love you all,
' Martha.
Maple Grove Lodge kept busy
The Maple Grove 'Lodge has had a very
busy month of activities. The big event of
the month at the lodge was the family pic-
nic. Friends and relatives came from far
and wide to enjoy varied salad plates
followed by a sampling of desserts brought
by guests. The residents enjoyed the op-
portunity to get all dressed up and play
host and hostess for their guests. In spite of
many other events in town that day, a total
of 62 guests attended.
The Bethel Pentecostal Church held an
afternoon service that was well attended.
The residents appreciate the church
members coming on a regular basis for a
worship service. The Entertainers, a sing-
ing group with Lorraine Madge, Tony
Hyde, and Gord Harrison spent the after-
noon with the residents with the singing
many old familiar songs. This is a popular
group who entertain on a regular basis and
heir visits are always eagerly looked for-
ard to.
Film night is a chance to travel to new
and different places both in Canada and
overseas. Recent films were "Trent -

A drive to the Bayfield area gave a
number of residents the opportunity to
revisit some familiar areas. Highlights of
the trip were a tour of the Bayfield Wagon
and Carriage Works, the Springbank
Harness Shop and a look through some of
the delightful village shops with a final
stop at the Harbour to admire the many
lovely sailboats.
Father's Day saw the gentlemen

Several residents went down to Harbour
