Residents along the route are asked to turn on their sprinklers to help cool the runner. Recreation dept. hosts 10 KM Classic Goderich .Recreation Department will • host the Goderich 10 KM classic run `July 18. Last year, 'there were 87 .entries from Goderich, the rest of Ontario and the United States and Jane Netzke, recreation director, expects at least that rnany this year. The race starts at 9 a.m. sharp at the Park House, 168 West St. and winds its way around Goderich, finishing at the Municipal Office, 57 West St, Over $600 in prize merchandise is being offered by Athlete's Foot, Suncoast Mall. Prizes will also be awarded to the•first 10 people who register at the store. Entries will also be accepted at the recreation The entry fee is $4 per person in advance ' and $5 on race day. Participants will register at the Park House on race day from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.. Change and washroom facilities .will be available at the Municipal offices and the Park House. Showers will be available at the Cambridge St. Community Centre, 376 Cambridge St.. According to Netzke, the race time has been. moved back from its usual 10 a.m. start in an effort to beat the heat. Residents along the route are.also asked to turn on their sprinklers to help cool the runners. The race is held on a certified 10 Km course.- ... The race in broken down into several race categories including: Men's Open, Women's Open, Masters (40 and over ), Youth Male (12-17 years of age ), Youth Female, Children under 12 and Goderich Male and Female Resident. Last years winners include: Mike Brooker of Tilsonberg in the Men's open with a time of 32.22; Lynn Devereaux of Seaforth in the Women's open with a time of 41.29; Shane Worsell in the Goderich male resident category with a time of 38.07.; and Connie MacAulay in the Goderich Female category with ,a time of ' 49.02. Sifto had G-4-ettes on their toes in the first half of the game with Brenda Dineen scoring in the_ second. They managed to hold the lead for an inning until Deb Clarence tied it up for Go-4-ettes last at bat as Connie McCauley got on base and a home run by Wendy Crittenden gave Gb-4-ettes the game 3-1. Samuelson's had the bats going in their game against.Meneset, as Kathy Dougher- ty and Allison Graham scored twice, while, Shelley Smith, Anita, Bartliff, Donni Bodner, Cindy Berry and Judy Woodall scored once each for Samuelson's to take the game 9-3. Heather Johnston, Joyce Orr and Chris Reid scored the runs for Meneset. Night Owls won their game against Hot Shots 17-5, as the hard hitting team brought in Marilyn MacCuspey, Lori Williams and Judy Williams three times each, while Marilyn Manderson and Dorie Kolkman scored twice. and Ruth Oke, Diana Glousher, Rhonda Bean and Carrie Middel once each to help Night Owls take the win. Laurie Kerr, Brenda Buruma, Cheryl Smith, Theresa Brower and Faye SLOW -PITCH Waller scored the runs for Hot Shots. Samuelson's early . runs secured their win against Nile as they scored in Rory Hurlock, Michelle Park, Nancy,„Allewell, Val Vanderburg, Nancy Chapman and Cin- dy Berry to take a 6-0 lead in the second. Nile came back with three runs by An- nabel Stewart, Ann Johnston and Sophie .Berguberger in the third, but Samuelson's bought in another four runs, two by Nancy Allewell and one apiece for Brenda,Parker and Nancy Chapman, to help Samuelsons take the win 10-4. Bruno's had Nile on the ropes throughout the game as they brought in five runs' in,. the fifth by Joanne Turner, Val Baker, Diane , Little, Trish Doherty and Betty Schoemaker. An early run by Ann Johnston plus a rally- in the seventh with runs by Annabel Stewart, Anne Johnston, Marlene MacDonald, Bonnie Dringale, Elaine O'Donnell. Carolyn Dowds, Norene Kerr, and Faye Ribey gave Nile the win 10-7. Jackie Hat- rison, Angela Carter, Dorrie Chisholm, Helen Graf and Alice Stinnison .scored twice each to help Sifto take the win. Shelley Smith and Kathy Dougherty each scored twice, while Allison Graham, Rory Hurlock, Anita Bartliff, Donni Bodner and Brenda Parker scored once each to help Samuelson's take the win over Meneset 9-5. Heather Johnston, and Sherri Warren scored twice and Karen MacKin- non scored once to give five runs to Meneset. Norma Walter brought in two runs while Pat Petrie, Sandy Fielder, Donna Murray, Kim Good, Libby Shultz, Sib Riehl, Shirley Schmidt and Val Mallough scored the singles to take a 10-0 game over Meneset.
