Ted. Bissett, former fire chief, dies at age 76
EDWARD (TED) BISSETT
Mr. Edward (Ted) Bissett, of Goderich,
died at Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital on Tuesday, July 7 at the age of 76.
Born in Goderich on May 16, 1911, he was
the son of the late Charles Bissett and the
former Elizabeth Newcombe.
He was .a milk man,,a Mr. Bissett was a
member of the Goderich Fire Department
for 47 years, 15 years which he served as
Fire Chief. For the past nine year, he was a
school crossing guard.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marion
Curry; one son John and his wife Mary of
Goderich; one daughter Marion and her
husband John Hinton of Inwood; two sisters,
Isabelle (Mrs. James Murray) of Seaforth
and Margaret ( Mrs. Jack Yeo) of Goderich;
onp brother Frank of Huronview. Also sur -

viving are several grandchildren: Cindy
and Stephen Freeman; James, Jeffrey and
Crystal Bissett; Todd and Jason Hinton;
and great granddaughter Natasha Marie
Freeman.
Mr. Bissett- was predeceased by one
brother Donald.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Thurs-
day, July 9 with Rev. Gordon Pickett of
North Street United Church officiating,
Members of the Goderich Fire Depart-
ment formed an honor guard at the funeral.
Flower bearers were Cindy Freeman and
Crystal Bissett. Pallbearers were Jim
Bissett, Jeff Bissett, Todd Hinton, Jason
Hinton, Stephen Freeman and Jack Hinton.
Interment at Maitland Cemetery.
EMILY PEARL ELLIOTT
Emily Pearl Elliott, of Maitland Manor,
died at her residence on Saturday, July 11 at
the age of 97.
Born in Dungannon on May 6, 1890, she
was the daughter of the late David Sproul
,and the former Jenny Kitson. She married
the late Stephen Arthur Elliot.
Mrs. EIltot was a member of the Dungan-
non United Church and a life member of
Dungannon UCW.
Surviving are a daughter Margaret (Mrs.
Oscar Cuthill) of Seaforth and a son Harold
and his wife Jean of RR 6, Goderich. Also
Goderich resident admitted to program
Laurentian University, Sudbury, On-
tario, has announced that Kevin - Alex-
ander Lockhart, of Goderich, who has
been attending McMaster university this
year, has successfully qualified for ad-
mission to its Universite canadienne en
France program for 1987-88. The re-
quirements for entry include good
academic standing and completion of one
year of university study or its equivalent.

anglophone students admitted to this uni-
que program from across Canada, will"
spend a year in southern France. An in-
tegral part of the Ontario University
system, the program offers a singular
opportunity to complete a year of univer-
sity credit while developing bilingual
skills and experiencing the broadening
•effects of travel.
The campus, located on the Cote
d'Azur at Villefranch-sur-mer, six
kilometres from Nice, is within easy
reach of numerous places of historical
and artistic interest. The intensive cur-
riculum in language and civilization,
highlights a special theme each year.
For 1987-88, many- of the courses have
been chosen to illustrate the theme "the
Twentieth Century World". Laurentian
University's Dean of Humanities, Lir.
Douglas H. Parker, has been appointed
coordinator for 1987-88. Laurentian
credits earned in the Universite cana-
dienne en France, are transferable to
other universities.
Laurentian University, founded by an
act of the Ontario legislature in 1960, is
constituted as a bilingual institution. It is
recognized for quality teaching and per-.
sonalized interaction between student
body and faculty. Its scholars represent
a microcosm of Canada. The Universite
canadienne en fiance programme is
jointly . administered by Laurentian
University and Blyth & Co.
Schultz family welcomed to Dungannon
Jim and Margaret Errington returned
home on Moddav, crossing from Manitoulin
Island on the Chi-Cheemaun after visiting
relatives in Cambridge, North Bay and Elk
Lake.
Robert and Marilyn Schueltz, Terry, Tina
and Lisa of Kippen visited with Elmer and
Gail Cook and Kevin recently.

Congratulations to Gordon and Pat
( Foran) Needham on the occassion of their
25th anniversary held on Saturday. A supper
was held' at the Seniors Centre for 'family
and friends, followed by a dance at the
Dungannon Hall. They have a family of
three Scott, Dale and Brent.

Bawers, who has been hospitalized for two
weeks, following an accident at home is up
and around in a walker and making good
• -progress.

She was predeceased by her husband, one
son Douglas Elliott, five sisters and two
brothers.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home on Mon-

Dungannon United Church officiating. •
Pallbearers were` Bob Wilson, Frank
Pentland, Ron Pentland, Arnold Stothers,
Herb Finnigan and Laverne Pentland.
