The Goderich Signal-Star, 1987-07-01, Page 28Page 9 Time to look ahead to new stage .of life BY JENNIFER TYNDALL HOLMESVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL Nineyears have come and gone but it is time to move on. ,Mr. Kane, teachers, ladies and gentlemen, fellow classmates: Life is full of changes and although often difficult to accept, changes indeed are inevitable. 'As a caterpillar blossoms into a butterfly, we too must go forth with anticipatidn into the unknown. We leave behind our .years at public school with one special thing to hold on to – _ our memories. We have the power of stor- ing things in -our minds and bringing them back when needed. As a minister once said, . "God gave us memories that we might have roses`. m December." . My first day of kindergarten just seems. like yesterday, with mom fussing over me and my fear of what that day would bring, but did make it and I couldn't quit talking about it at supper that night. Many en- - joyable years followed with special days and special friends. . Cowboy flay in Grade 3, was one of my favororites. This was when all of the students dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls. Our teacher cooked us weiners and beans for lunch and all day long we played rodeo games. We were also lucky enough to go swimm- ing regularly in Grade 4. The most frightening experience I can recall occurred when our class -went to the Hullett Conservation Area to plant trees. My classmates found out that I was afraid of snakes and to my dismay they decided to put them around my neck, but by the end of the day I was holding snakes too. Last year our students' council invented clash day. The entire school dressed up in clothes that didn't match. Three winners were chosen. I was happy to be chosen one of the lucky three. Our prize was a free While the graduating class from Holmesville Public School received their diplomas and a Goderich Township History Book during their graduation ceremony, these students receiv- ed special honors. (David Emslie photos) lunch on hot dog day. -The funniest incident I can remember was going to Camp Sylvan in Grade 7. My group got lost on the hike. Forgive me for sounding prejudiced but I did try telling the boys which way to get back. They refused to listen to a girl and -as a result, we returned —LAST. Being the graduation class this year, we got together for a party at Christmas. It was a chance for all of us to have some fun outside of school. We watched movies, danced and even played charades for almost two hours. When looking ahead to high school, a bit of hard reality sets in. No longer are we to Congratulations to the . That support we have counted ton for nine years § suddenly pull- ed out from underneath us, but this is when we dig .deep within •ourselves and remember back to that first day of kindergarten. For there is no doubt that this new phase in our lives will bring us just as many treasured moments. We know, that we shall always be thankful for the dedication of the teachers and the companionship of our fellow classmates.
