Thn soon found out that singing "Les petits lutins" in front of a gymnasium full of people who attended the St. Mary's Christmas concert Thursday night wasn't that hard after all. (photo by Lou - Ann Hope) They had whipped cream from their own cow Christmas Memories "Come on get up, its five o'clock". That was when my dad and mom would get up and find what they got for Christmas. There was a doll for mom. And dad probably got something for his horses. After they un- wrapped their gifts, they would head out to the barn to do the chores. They would really move . fast in the barn to get everything done, before their cousins and Aunts and Uncles came. In mom's case she went over to her Grandma's. The first thing they would do was tell each other what they got for Christmas. Mom's Grandma had a big wood stove going full blast so the turkey would be cooked in time for dinner and the kitchen was so hot that it made everyone go in the living room. Well, as for my dad, soon as the rest of the family got there they would go tobogganing down their hills till dinner time. For dinner my mom and dad would have tomato juice, cranberries, mashed, potatoes with gravy, dressing, jello, corn, carrots, peas, homade pickles, pickled beets, cab- bage salad, and the juicy turkey that tasted • so good out of the wood -stove oven. For dessert they had pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream right from their own cow. There was Mintsmeat pie and nobody could resist the butter tarts. After this gigantic meal the women of the house did the dishes (and lots of gossup would be said while doing dishes) In the liv- ing room you could find men sprawld out on the chair or sofa sleeping, and some chat- ting. On my mom's side the kids would run around teasing each other and babysitting any babies or young kids. In my dad's family the kids would go out- side and hook up the pony to the sleigh and go sleigh riding across the snowy fields. Later in the afternoon everyone would gather back in the living room to open gifts. Lots and lots of gifts were under the Christmas tree for each and everyone. Pic- tures were taken of each family and of all the grandchildren withtheir grandparents. Then everyone said good-bye and went home.
