of a total absolution
By REV. G.L.'ROYAL
Within the immediate past I took up the
subject, "The Beginning Of An Ending,"
for a sermon topic. The focus was upon
losing ourselves in Christmas joy and fail-
ing to take the long view. My emphasis
hovered around the Atonement that is
made for us in and through Jesus Christ. I
recalled a poet once stating,. "the shadow
of a Cross spread across the, Bethlehem
manger." Thus, as I entered Aent and
made progress ,.to't+u r hristrSt Day., I .s
had to keep .tn perspirrv
e the completed
act of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Even
when singing rapturously the carols of
Christendom we are to remember Calvary
and the Rising of Easter Morning.
We. are a people who know only beginn-
is and endings; everything we do and
kn has its own genesis and its conclu-
sion; life commences and life ends; in the
reading of a book, going to school, there is
beginning and end; absolutely everything
has these two descriptive parts. Thus,
dare we isolate ourselves into Christmas,
without benefit 'of Good Friday. and "the
first day of the week?" I think not. As
Christians we have the total picture of
God's atoning salvation. Christ was born;
Christ lived; Christ died; and, Christ
lives! Is that not something of the joy we
experience?
As we, make our memorial feasts on
