Jeff Phelan (14) of the Goderich,Machinist Atoms played a strong
game Saturday as the local squad defeated Lucan 7-1 in Goderich.
Phelan opened the scoring for the winners, who went on to score
five unanswered goals in the middle, period to coast to the win.

Lajeunese scores nine goals in
three games in Howick tourney
In a weekend atom houseleague hockey
tournament in Howick, two Goderich teams
played three games each as all players
played well in a format which produces no
winners or losers—just a good time and
good, fair hockey.
The Goderich Flyer's, behind the goal
scoring prowess of Jason Lajeunese, tied
Mount Forest 2-2, defeated Arthur 7-3 and
Hanover 7-5.
Lajeunese powered the offense for the
winners, scoring a total.of nine goals in the
three games.
The Flyers opened with a 2-2 tie against
Mount Forest, as Ken McClarty and Rob
Kinahan, scored. James McDade assisted on
Kinahan's marker, which gave the locals a
2-1 lead in the third period Mount Forest,
however, tied the game with a goal with less
than three minutes to play.
The next day, the Flyers built a 3-0 lead
and defeated Arthur 7-3 as Lajeunese scored
four goals.
Darryl Fielder opened the scoring for the
winners midway through the opening
period, with James McDade drawing the
lone assist. Lajeunese then scored his first
of the game and the tournament early -in the•
second before Lee Williamson gave,
Goderich a 3-0 second period advantage.
Mark Stoll assisted on both Goderich goals
in the middle frame.
Arthur eventually -cut the margin to 3-2
before Lajeunese restored a two -goal ad-
vantage with an unassisted goal midway
through the final period. Arthur scored to
cut the locals' lead to one again, but
Goderich pulled away with three goals in the
final 2:32 of the contest. Fielder and La-
jeunese .i with two 1 did the damage for the
winners.
The Flyers kept' up their winning ways
with a 7-5 triumph over Hanover later Sun-
day afternoon. Lajeunese was once again
the scoring hero as he recorded five goals in
the win.
Goderich once ;vain started strong, tak-
ing a quick 3-0 lead on a pair of markers by
Lajeunese and one by James McDade.
Hanover scored two of their own to cut the
lead to 3-2 after one period of play.
Lajeunese completed his hat trick two
minutes into the middle frame as Lee
Williamson set him up.
Hanover tied the game with a pair of goals
Goaltending leads. Atoms to win
dilligently and set-up some excellent pass-
ing plays and were rewarded with a 6-1 lead
going into the third period. David Boyce,
Drew MacCaulay, Chris Dickson, Andrew
Scott and Danny Rivers were the goal
scorers for Goderich.
The only scoring in the third period came
off the stick of Bryan Hodges who was set up
nicely by Ryan Farrish to end the game.
Goderich will be hosting St. Marys this
Saturday. Come to the arena Saturday
afternoon and help support minor hockey.
.Solid goaltending by Jamie Redmond and
Chris Lyndon, supported by a strong
defence, sparked the Goderich Machinist
Atoms to a 7-1 victory over visiting Lucan
Saturday.
Jeff Phelan opened the scoring early for
Goderich in the first minute of play as he
clicked on a pass from Chris Dickson.
In the second period, Goderich scored five
' unanswered goals before Lucan was able to
tally late in the period for their lone marker.
The Goderich forwards forechecked
Rumig and Melick lead Tweens
Trisha Rumig scored two goals to pace a
balanced offensive attack as the Goderich
Tweens defeated Exeter 6-3 in Huron- •
Perth Ringette action on the weekend in
Hensall.
Goderich took a 3-1 lead after the first
period on goals by Alecia Glousher, Jen-
nifer Hamilton and Tara Haylow.
Exeter cut the Goderich lead to 3-2 in the
second frame, but shortly thereafter,
Rumig scored the first of her two goals.
Alecia Glousher assisted on the goal which
proved to be the winner. ,
Cristina Melick scored two minutes later
for the winners, with Haylow assisting.
Rumig rounded out the scoring midway
through the final period.
The Goderich coaching staff said that
the girls played well the entire match,with
an especially strong performance turned
in by Cristina Melick.

late in the second period before Goderich
scored the next three markers in the final
frame. Lajeunese sandwiched a pair of
goals in the final period around a tally by
Scott Creamer.
Goderich Blue ties a pair
The other Goderich Atom team to par-
ticipate, the Goderich Blue, tied Harriston
5-5 Saturday in a see -saw battle.
Jason Meriam led the way for the Blue,
scoring a pair of goals. Jeff Klages, Trevor
Bazinet and Ben Armstrong had the other
Goderich goals.
Goderich opened the scoring but Har-
riston tied the game before the period end-
ed. Harriston took a 2-1 lead, but Goderich
tied it only to see Harriston take another
one -goal lead. Once again Goderich tied the
game 3-3 before Harriston took a 4-3 lead in-
to the second intermission. Two goals by
Goderich gave them a slim one -goal lead but
Harriston tied the game for the final time
half -way through the final stanza.
The Blue dropped a 7-2'decision to Howick
in their next encounter, but they finished the
tourney with. a 272 'deadlock against
Wingham:
Wingham'took a 1-0lead.after-one period
of play, but Goderich'tied the game early in
the second frame on a goal by Jeff Klages.
Before the middle session ended, though,
Wingham scored again but midway through
the final period, Jeremy Powell scored with
the lone assist awarded to Jason Meriam.
