Colborne students prepare
for Christmas concert
It sure looks Christmasy around Colborne
Central School this week. The Primary
classes are all decorated with Christmas
trees, angels and colourful wreaths. The
senior wing has been a beehive of activity as
the students from grades 6, 7 and 8 have
been making decorations for the gym-
nasium and halls. All classes have been
preparing for the Christmas Concert which
is scheduled for 7:30 this evening.
The concenrt will open with two musical
numbers presented by the Primary Choir.
The Kindergartens will then inform the au-
dience that Christmas Is Coming and that
. Santa Is Coming. They will also sing about
• Christmas Helpers. The grade 3-4 class will
Search for the Christmas Spirit. The grade
ones will entertain the audience with two
traditional carols and a skit about Three Lit-
tle Christmas Trees. An unusual version of
the Twelve Days of Christmas will be
presented by the grade 7-8 class. The grade
4-5 class is planning to perform I'm Gettin
Nuttin for Christmas. This group have
developed their own version of Emmett Ot-
ter's Jug Band. Hats is sure to be a hit when
presented. by the talented grade b-7 class.
The grade 2-3 class has planned to Go Tell It
On the Mountain and sing about the Friend-
ly Beasts. Our Senior Choir will then sing
Rock 'n Roll Christmas and Christmas
Cookies -Christmas Candy. They will be
joined for the grand, finale by the Primary
'-/Choir. Borth groups will sing two popular
Christmas songs. You are invited to join us
on Wednesday, December 10 at 7:30 to share
with its the joy of the Christmas season.
Everyone has put a lot of time and energy
into making this concert thebest Christmas
Concert ever.
The senior students at Colborne have
started getting ready for the Senior Basket-
ball Tournament. The teams already look
pretty good.
Mr. Brereton's VIP course for grades 6-7
is just about finished. The students have
been discussing the units "Shoplifting • is
Stealing" and "Youth and the Law". Mr.
Tom Ewen, a probation officer, and Mr.
Glen Carey, a local lawyer, came and talked
to the students about their role in helping
youth to be better citizens. A sincere thanks
..to both men.

No. I don't agree with the way the
Americans take care of their deceased
but I am most assuredly amused by it.
I prefer a simpler system, a ceremony
with due respect and a meaningful last
rite as Canadians as death and taxes.
For instance, my next of kin has very
specific instructions for what to do when
I bite the big one.
First, they're to have me cremated and
are to send notes to everyone ever men-
tioned in this column that read: "You
can come out now, he's gone."
Third, a note is to be inserted in the box
along with the ashes that reads: "Now
you have it all!"

With the heavy snows of winter on the

and snowplough operators across the
country.

Every year Rural Route contractors
who deliver rtnail .to more than. one million
Canadian residences face the hazards of
travelling during the winter moaliiis. in ad-
dition, their job is hampered by the
buildup of snow and ice around mail boxes.
As the property of the rural resident, it is
the postal customer's responsibility to
keep the area around the boxes as cleat as
possible of snow. On behalf of its rural
route contractors, Canada Post is asking
n11 sneh e ,t.ometi:,s to do their best to en-
sure a clear path 'to their boxes.
An 4daiiitiarnal problem for rural route
couriers as well as rural residents is the
darn'L,f' an ' c by
snowploughs. Many cases are reported
each winter of snowploughs lopping off
boxes from their posts and destroying the
receptacles atnd moortngs entirely.
While recognizing the difficult chore faced
by plough operators, the post office
believes a little more care and co-
operation would alleviate the problem
considerably.
