Willis honored The 27th Western Ontario Provincial Assembly of Canadian Foresters was hosted by Bell -Wood District Council at the Holiday Inn in Guelph on November 21 and 22. One hundred and thirty-five members from 26 courts registered. W.O.P.A. President Bro. Hudson Milburn of Ct. Benmiller opened the meeting Friday evening. A short business session was followed by the memorial ser- vice, conducted by the W.O.P.A. ex- ecutive. The names •of 68 members who died during the past year were added to the Memorial Scroll. Among those were the late Sis. Phyllis . McConnell, Ct. Fascination; Bros. Ross Eedy, George Ginn, Frank Horton, Robert Mugford and Orville Rodges of Ct. Benmiller. Solos and a duet rendered by Sis. Doreen Willis of Ct. Fascination and Bro. Hudson Milburn add- ed to the solemnity of the occasion. Bro. Bob Elliott, vice-president of marketing, Brantford, introduced the se- cond national project for the Canadian Foresters -the Canadian Foresters Games for the Physically Disabled -by showing a film of past rrimnF. Members and guests were entertained after the Friday evening ceremonies at a dance convened by the local committee. . On Saturday, Ct. Fascination received the Activity Award for their achievements for the society and the community during the past year. Sis. Doreen Willis was nam- ed Forester of the Year 1986 and received her pin from Bro. Vidal Mills, London, who held that honored position in 1985. Bro. Bob Elliott re -introduced the sub- ject of the games for the disabled. Ct. Brantford's bid• to hold the 1987 games in Brantford has been accepted. The Cana- dian Foresters have pledged $37,500 each year to any city in any province where the games may be held during the next five years -the games are held every two years. Each court is urged to sponsor one athlete. Among the W.O.P.A. officers installed were Past President Bro. Hudson Milburn, President Sis. Gwen Ray, Ct. Wabash, Vice -President Bro. Jim Thompson, Ct. Gil Short'receiv- ed $6,375 for the Cancer Research Fund. Though the CF Games •for the Disabled project is less than two weeks old, $4,330 was donated to this worthy cause. Another $1,303 was added to this fund when Bro. Glen Patterson, member of the High Court Executive, auctioned off articles requisi- tioned by the host committee. The 1987 Assembly will be held at Wallaceburg on. November 20 and 21, 1987. Women's ' Institute learn about special education Education was the theme of the Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute November meeting. Mrs. Eric , Reaburn, president, presided and opened the meeting welcoming all who then joined in the opening exercises with Mrs. A. Stoll, pianist. The roll call, "my first school attended", bres of astzmeeting Were and approved. ack n retMrs. A. Stoll introduced the guest speakers, Mrs. Verna Kane and Mrs. Carol Simons. Mrs. Kane is the co-ordinator of special education for children with learning pro- blems, children who are gifted and children who are exceptional or for any reason re- quire special attention. Mrs. Simons spoke on education for first grade students, how children really learn in this decade and things that motivate their learning.
