Fundraising is, generally a result of the lack of sufficient funding for elementary -schools, according to the OPSTF. The group has lobbied steadily for the past two years to see the ordinary expenditure ceil- ing for elementary pupils raised to at least the same level as that provided for secon- dary pupils. "This is not the fault of the local school boards but the historical policy of our pro- ,vincial governments. Clearly the tissue of fundraising in our schools is a concern to all parents and teachers, and requires fur- ther investigation. The resolution that was passed by...the Provicial Executive of the OPSTF was made with the express intent of reducing possible risks for our youngsters." The OPSTF—Huron members concur with this intent and made a similar motion at their Fall district meeting. "Presently there is active support for the protection of our children through ex- cellent programs like Block Parents. Possibly people should look at protecti6n on.an even broader scale by contacing the elected provincial representatives, seek- ing their help in support of our youth ( and future) by ensuring proper funding to eliminate the door-to-door fund-raising. The greatest gift we could give our youngsters would be a guarantee of their safety," the release concludes: SNORT TERM 7.
