Teachers oppose school fundraising
The Provincial Executive of the Ontario
Public School Teachers' Federation
(OPSTF) recently endorsed a resolution
indicating door-to-door fundraising tun par-
ticular and fundraising by
parents or teachers in general, for the pro-

counsidered as a normal facet of an educa-
tional program should be discouraged. A
press release from the OPSTF indicates
the group, while realizing the fund-raising
provides funds for worthwile projects,
believes the practice can also endanger
the fund-raisers.
"The educationai environment in which
today's students participate is exciting
and diverse, and, money raised through
fundraising drives has contributed to ex-
posing our children to a broad range of ex-
periences in and out of our school
buildings. Local field trips, graduation
ceremonies, shcool beautification, com-
puter hardware and playground equip-

For farmers covered.by
. it will be a fairly simple process to deter-
mine what amount of assistance they will
be elibible for. The government will simp-
ly use the crop insurance assessments to
estimate the losses. -Uninsured farmers
will have to have their losses estimated
after the fact, using sales receipts and
storagey using these methods and talking to
the farmers, it should be•fairly simple to
assess," Pullen said.
Applicaton forms for the enhanced aid
programs will not be available until at
least Dec. 15, Pullen said.
A special toll-free telephone number for
the OFFIRR Plus information has been set
up to be available beginning today. Before
calling the number (1400-2684152)
farmers should be sure their situation
meets two basic criterium. The number is
only for the use of farmers who are not in-
sured under the crop irisurance program
and who have crop losses of 30 per cent or
more, Pullen pointed out.
