Stuart will be
studying local
business supply
requirements
Goderich's tourism and industrial pro-
moter, RobinStuart presented a synopsis
of types of industries presently located in
Huron County at the August 20 meeting of
the Goderich Economic Development
Committee. Stuart also reported on the
types of supplies required by two local
businesses and one area oration.
It is indicated, said Start, that more
local businesses need to be canvassed to
see if their .supply requirements are of suf-
ficient quantity that existing local opera-
tions can consider adding lines or a new
business may be able to develop in the
community as a result.
Niilo Saari, officer with the Department
of Regional and Industrial Expansion
(DRIE), Trade and Business Development
Branch provided additional information
about opportunities available through his
department in relation to future industrial
promotion efforts. These include helping
initial contact with DRIE officers in canes
such as Detroit and Chicago, promotional
with industrial leads, offering p
opportunities such as the Cleveland Trade
Fair and the October Export '86 program
aimed at developing export business and
the chance to put Goderich promotional
literature in DRIE offices and at promo-
tional shows.
Saari stressed a good profile outlining all
data that a company needs in order to help
make a decision about possibly locating in
a community is most important. An industrial promotion p
subcom-
mitteelan was formed with Mayor Eileen
Palmer, Councillor John Stringer, Bob
Chapman; administrator Larry McCabe
and tourism and industrial promoter
Stuart as members. A meeting is to be ar-

The Goderich Airport Committee, has
been unsuccessful in its attempt to reach a
negotiated settlement with Ontario Hydro
concerning the proposed hydro transmis-
sion corridor through Huron County. It will
therefore be necessary for the town and
the airport to present further evidence to
the Consolidated Hearings Board at hear-
ings scheduled for October 7 in Clinton.
It is the position of the town and the air-
port that the proposed corridor from the
Bruce Nuclear Power Development
through Huron County to London poses a
serious safety threat to pilots attempting
to land at the airport on an app
