Don and Sally MacEwan win
Molson Trophy after playoff
The Couples Two -Ball Championship, in
the form of the Molson Trophy, has been
won by Don and Sally MacEwan.
This championship has been ongoing all
summer and the final was played on
September 7th. Don and Sally were tied
with Joan and Bob McDougall and an ex-
tra six holeshad to be played before the tie
was broken. A real cliff-hanger!
First low net was won by Jack and Chris
Hoffmeyer, followed by Jean and Bill itan-
ly, Edna and Fred Looker, Bob and Joan
McDougall and Ardith and Ed Brissette.
Men's night on Monday Sept. 8 saw 36
men take to the course. Jack Gould came
home with 1st low net and Bob McDougall
with 1st low gross. Other net wingers were,
• Fred Looker, Ken Hall, ,►, Egenel', George
Zolob, Bill Graham, Al "'MacDonald, Mur-
ray McGill, Jeff Harrison, Eb Ross and
ON TH
BALL
at the Maitland
Bill Cochrane.
Ladies' Night had a complement of 21
present in perfect golf weather. First flight
winners were Verna Kane and Marie Huff,
with Ardith Brissette having least number
of putts. Edna Looker, Bess Smith and
Rosemarie Evans were second flight prize
winners; Bertha McGee, Jean Knight and
Chris Hoffineyer, third flight winners
while fourth flight was taken by Lois
McGill, Joyce Shack and Lynn Edward.
The matches are at a standstill at the
present time as the river has overflowed
its banks with the torrentail rain we had on
Wednesday and Thursday, and the eighth
and ninth holes are flooded. Hope it dries
up for Championship Day.
Speaking of the eighth and ninth holes,
we are considering changing the name of
the course to Maitland Country CLub and
Wildlife Preserve. We have a family of
black ducks, a Canada goose and a crane
all at home on the 8th fairway and the
ducks and goose will let you get within a
few feet before waddling off into the river.
Of course we also have the ubiquitous
ground hog and skunks, although they
haven't been seen, we know that they have
been in the vicinity by the holes they leave.
A fox was also spotted trotting across the
fairway!
Go-4-Ettes edge Oldtimers 11-10
The rain this past week played havoc
with the second round of the Ladies
Slowpitch Playoffs.
In the A Division, the teams managed to
complete a first set of games. On
September 8, Go-4-Ettes managed a come -
from -behind victory over the Old-timers,
winning 11-10.
Debbie Clarence and Barb Ottewell each
slammed homeruns for the Go-4-Ettes.
Kim Good did the same for the Oldtimers.
The next evening, September 9, Sifto had
their bats working as they defeated
Go-4-Ettes 14-4. Barb Lassaline had a
homerun and Brenda Dineen hit a triple
plus a double for Sifto. Wendy Crittenden
had a triple for Go-4-Ettes.
The third game in this series between
the Old-timers and Sifto was played on
Sunday, Sept. 14, with the Oldtimers com-
ing up victorious by an 8-3 score. Sandy
Fielder went 3 for 3 for the Oldtimers.
Jackie Harrison hit a triple for Sifto.
In the B Division, two out of three games
were played. On Sept. 8, Night Owls out-
scored Nile 9-5. Night Owls took the lead in
the first inning and never looked back.
However, on Friday, 'Sept. 12, Night
Owls took on Meneset at the hard -ball dia-
mond. This time Night Owls were out-
scored as Meneset defeated them 7-6 in a
very tight game.
The third game between Meneset and
Nile will be played on Tuesday at Meneset.
