BIRTHDAY CLUB
Hi, my name is Kristine Ann McIvor and I
will be eight years -old on Friday June 20. 1
live on Mary Street in Goderich with my
dad, , mom and little sister, Candice. Our
school trip is on my birthday and we are go-
ing to Grand`Bend to the Museum and also
to the Pinery. It should be fur, but I hope it
doesn't rain. I'd also like to wish Sherry and
Fred,my birthday pal` a happy day.Thank you

The recent winners an the farm safety
poster contest from grade 2 were first, Mike
Puddy; third, Mike Culbert and Honorable
mention, Nathan purnin and Daily Wylds-
Both Grade one classes went on a trip to
Wingham where they had a tour of Zehr's
and the hospital. They had a picnic lunch in
the park at Wingham and were accom-
panied by several mothers and one dad.
Michael Johnston, Grade 3, found a
balloon in his field which had been released
by Lou Nagy of Forest Park Elementary
School, near Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. Liddle's Grade 6 class went to Camp
Menesetung on June 12 and 13 to do many in-
teresting activities, under the leadership of
Mrs. Worsell and Mr. Liddle.
Mrs. Young's Grade 1 made dinosaur
shadow boxes to wind up their dinosaur unit.
They are starting a "veggie" unti, a
cooperative project with Mrs. Blake the
librarian.
On Tuesday June 10, Lee Cairncross
visited Mrs. Worsell's Grade 5 class to talk
about local government at the township
level. The class is studying the levels of
government in Ontario.
The Grade 5 pupils from both portables
visited last week at Phyldon Waterfowl, a
bird sanctuary run by Mr. and Mrs. Hank
Coleman near Brussels. They saw many in-
teresting birds and animals.
Grades 3 and 4, under the leadership of
Mrs. Tebbutt and. Mrs. Graham, completed
a unit on Amish Mennonite culture.
Nancy Martin of Whitechurch spoke to the
combined classes explaining differences
between the two ways of life. Marie Wilkins
demonstrated bread -making and making
sticky buns.
The students were divided into five groups
and rotated through five activities over five
days. These activities included fraktur art,
quilt -making, baking, origins and settle -
students d well in farm
went patterns, and reading task cards on
various aspects of the topic.
The project culminated on the sixth day
with the classes eating a typical Amish meal
using the products of the baking groups as
well as borscht German hot potatoe
salad and pickles.

Both Grade 2 classes are going to share a
"Family Picnic",trip to St. Christopher's
Beach in Goderic.
The picnic will include a walk around
Goderich Harbor to see and talk about all
the interesting sights, and an afternoon of
cooperative games. Family members will
be invited to share the visit.
The Grade 2 Alphabet is still "frog -
watching" The bullfrog tadpoles now which
ve
large back legs and good-sized bump
will soon turn into front legs, "Ribbit!"
The mystery animal turned out to be a
baby fish - a "pinhead".
Right now the class is making t
gifts for their Grade 7 reading buddies.
