Martha is attacked by a shop
Hello everyone I hope you are all well,
happy and busy.
I have been at the Studio almost every
day. I told you about making covers for the
Cook Books - we're still working on them.
They sell as fast as we can make them.
For helping Mary with her shows, she leis
me go and paint any time there is a spare
easel. So this weekend she asked me if I
would come over on Friday and Saturday -
and feed her cats and ducks. I'm happy to
have the peace and quiet of being alone in
the studio and the feeding job is a pleasure.
For years, now, the Mallard ducks bring
their youngsters to Mary on their first trip
from the nest. Tiny, wee ducklings - she had
seven - and Mr. Mallard comes too.
Suddenly now the babies are quite grown -
about a month old but there's only three
now. Racoons and another anirnal around
her cut them down every year:They - the lit-
tle ones and mama - eat out of your hand.
We have a crocodile in our river again so
that's disturbing.
I've sold six Cook Books (to change the
subject) and orders for four more - so I
worked on a pansy painting and another owl
Jae
- I still have to do another bird - my fourth -
they're real pretty but difficult.
Busy, busy - I've been painting every day -
standing most of the time - I'm just pooped
when I get back. I've been falling asleep on
the couch, Wait iaier iuf-ns off the TV and
throws a blanket over me.
I waken about 4 a.m. and start reading...
anything that's handy. In an hour or so I
hear the paper person - a lady in a car,
throws the paper bash, bash in the door-
ways. A few minutes later a bird starts
squawking. I don't know if the papers
disturbed him or if he saw dawn creeping in.
Tippy -Toeing around I get Waits
breakfast and lunch ready. The jim dandy
egg cooker - electric - is a big help. I make
up sandwiches for both of us - and the time is
flying as usual.'
I remember I'd better eat and reach for
the box - a new one to me, has grain clusters,
raisins, dates, apples coconut and `shaved'
almonds - and the raisins were plump and
sweet too. a,
I had mixed up hard boiled eggs for the
sandwiches and as I poured the breakfast
food - I poured it into the wrong bowl. I just
stood looking at it - didn't like to waste it, so
inc°t
tasted it. What a surprise. I mixed it really
well and it was delicious.
I couldn't help laughing at such an im-
possible mixture with hard boiled eggs and
mayo but it made me a fine breakfast with
my glass of cranberry juice_ I think these
surprise breakfasts keep me healthy and
able to keep up the pace. Anyway milk isn't
too exciting on most cereals so I enjoyed my
new recipe.
The other day I experienced a happening
that threw me kir a loop. I was in a Super-
market - the butter, milk and egg aisle -
crowded as usual. I looked around - about
seven or more people were jammed .tri one
part of the aisle - then I realized two other
people beside me and those behind were all
waiting to go through, what was the holdup?
Looking around I saw an elderly lady - her
cart crosswise in front of us was the reason.
She began to pull her cart back and those
ahead of me pushed through, as I steered
away from her my cart, touched hers I
think, another cart had hit mine - anyway I
said "Sorry" and went on through.
Suddenly a screaching tirade made me
look back - she was screaming at me. Before
I could say a word she shoved her cart into
me - still screaming, I was so surprised I
could only say, "it was so crowded -.
She bashed the cart at me again, this
brought out "You silly old fool, I couldn't
help it-! But she was going to rush me
again. Boy that raised my ire.
I stopped the cart and faced her but she
ran real fast by me and I just stood there
boiling. The whole stupid episode really
upset me, I was on the verge of tears - but no
one seemed to have seen the attack so I
wandered on - didn't know what I wanted to
buy or if I should just leave.
I wandered on a bit when I felt a hand on
my arm - startled, I just looked at her - "Oh,
I'm glad I found you - I'm so sorry - I didn't
know why I did it" - and she rambled on
about how she wasn't well and had been
upset - on and on -.
I thought, locking at her thin pale face -
"she's off her rocker - get away from her.
But she was saying again how badly she felt.
What did I say when I could get a word in?
"Are you talking your vitamins? ! "
I hope I never have such a pressure raiser
again!
Love Martha
